Valkyrion
As per my intro I've decided to start Wolves as an aside to my fairly rigid Crimson Fists. I wanted a change from all that blue and something with a bit more character. But I don't want to paint them grey. In fact, my colour scheme is more akin to Dark Angels Green with flashes of red and I need a way of justifying that. I've read through the great stuff on Lost Companies and the lack of successor chapters and I guess mine would be a lost company, but none of the stuff touches on changing the colour scheme of the Space Wolves. My Crimson Fists are based around the aftermath of the Rynns World disaster, around 992.M41, and my wolves would be too, to go hand in hand (er, fist to paw?) with each other. I have half a story in mind linking my company to the destruction of Hive Fleet Ophidia, about which hardly any fluff is present only that they have 'remnants' according to the 40k rule book. So they'd be tyranid hunting wolves, painted green. I had toyed with the idea of them being renegade after killing a load of dark angels and swiping their armour, but I want them to be imperium friendly. I had also thought about making them 'Hounds of Demos' or A.N.Other DIY chapter, but the models have a lot of references to Fenris and/or Russ and the Space Wolves imagery is fairly unique and not something I would imagine many other chapters would use. Maybe the wolf pelts could be used by others, but all the runes and fangs and skulls is too space wolf to be anything else. So, how can I have them being green? Camoflauge? The Lords favourite colour? It matches their eyes? Any help would be greatly appreciated! The Fenrisian
I'd say go with it being a camo colour. The current BoLS Badab mini dex has several examples of marines in a camo style pattern. It'd probably make the most sense fluff wise if you really wanted to explain it. Or as always, you can say that your Wolf Lord changed it himself to mark himself out from the rest of his brethren.....cause he was just that damn good ;). Valkyrion
You know the Lion and the Wolf story where when the Dark Angels and Wolves meet they have a bout between two champions in honour of that meeting? What about something as daft as a sort of bet twixt the two armies, where the loser of that bout must repaint their armour in the colour of their rivals? In his shame, the wolf lord lost the bout and vowed never to return to the fang. Sounds like something they might do after an oceans worth of ale...The dark angels don't seem that type though. Valkyrion
Maybe I could use the DA idea and have the former Wolf Lord or whoever the champion was now be a Lone Wolf. Have an army made up of mainly Grey Hunters and Wolf Guard, with a single (and small) Blood Claw/Sky Claw/Swift Claw unit as the last of the young marines, with the rest now being almost veteran like - small and elite after years of constant war and no way to recruit?
