Plus it's a nightmare to transport. My Ironclad doesn't have his added either. I'm planning on using it with a Standard Bearer, or probably more likely as an objective marker (maybe with a Space Marine Casualty model). Gerrie
I think the armour lacks highlighting and the gold needs more shading, but apart from that this is a beauty. Maybe the figure might benefit from some decals, some areas look a bit plain. David the Despoiler
I agree with all of the above, and a Badab Black wash on the metal would help give it a more dirty and used look. If you don't want that look, just highlight on top again with the same metal you used here, to at least add some contrast. Rhellion
I agree with all of the above, and a Badab Black wash on the metal would help give it a more dirty and used look. If you don't want that look, just highlight on top again with the same metal you used here, to at least add some contrast. The metal has 2 coats of badab black wash on it already. The gold is definitely what I like least about the model. And I think I will add some decals. I was unsure about it before. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181096-ultramarine-venerable-dreadnought/#findComment-2144381 Share on other sites
A17roolz
I agree with what was mentioned above, but a wonderful coat of blue regardless, very evenly layered, good job on that. Gryphonne Sepia Wash may bring out the colour of gold a bit better than Badab Black (Badab Black seems to work best with boltgun metal/chainmail). Thantoes
I already posted my views about this in your blog so wont go into it. However I quite like the gold myself. I think decals would not go well at all. What could work is the Ultra symbols from FW. Those rock. The alternative to the gold is to maybe do the wings in white like this one http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...=149428&hl= (yes its mine, still doesnt mean that the white doesnt look good) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181096-ultramarine-venerable-dreadnought/#findComment-2144499 Share on other sites
greatcrusade08
ive never been a big fan of gold myself, the only time it looks good is with NMM, but that is very hard to achieve with success. I quite like the white like Thantoes did on his, i use space wolf grey as shading on white, but other greys/bluey tones can be used aswell. TheReclusiarch
Perhaps add some sacred writing on the hull? Perhaps it'll make him look even more venerable too! PapaSmurf
hmmmm your painting is quite clean and looks nice to me, but, as the others already said: the Highlighting is missing.
