Shoot I wish i could remember the guys name, but he was a finnish or norweigen 'eavy metal painted who did an awesome Space Wolf force years ago. One of the guys he converted was Ranulf. And he was big. Wish i could remember the WD it was in.......

The guy's name was Kim Syberg. I remember because when that White Dwarf came out that featured his article, I cut it out, stuck the sheets in document protectors, and put it in a binder along with my 2nd Edition codex that I still have.

Kim did an incredible job with his whole army, but especially his version of Ranulf.

THATS the guy! Yeah his Ranulf was awesome. He bulked it up with plastic card, green stuff and all sorts of stuff. Any chance you got a pic of him that you can post? would love to see that mini again.

ragnar completed a task worthy of him recieving 1, eg a spacewolf flips a landraider to save his friends, prooving his might his lord rewards him with 1, the point of frostblades is to show that you are mighty in strength, and as i mentioned, this isn't a cheap or common option, the only way i would ever field a squad of 10 wolfguard with dual frostblades at strength 6 is if they were combined with ragnar and a wolf priest to maximise their potential, it just is not worth fielding a 530 point squad that dies as easy as a standard marine squad worth 150.

however i believe this glitch that exists is the perfect way to tool up a lord to represent Ranulf.

using the dual frostblade and thunderwolf you get a strength 7 marine with a required large base with which to put a large.

as long as you don't mind him becoming calvary or not being able to join squads it works.

plus with strength 7 rending attacks, remember we are saying the strength bonus is passive so you loose the power weapon attack type and can use the rend style for tanks meaning you can penetrate a land raider by punching it. (adding to the fluff, because using your swords, you would probably snap them on the hull.

But I thought that Frostblades don't stack, and you only get the strength bonus if you are actually using it; i.e. when you are declaring that you aren't using your Frost Blades, he drops to S5...

it states no where that the strength is on use of the blade.

this is currently being argued.....

until a faq comes out use the rules the way you want.

Except for the fact that the rule for Frost Blades says that the weapon grants +1 Strength to the user. Regardless, the stacking Frost Blades issue is being discussed elsewhere, how about we not hijack this thread on Ranulf any further?

Back on topic, Ironman, I'll try to play around with the scanner later today; if I can get it to work correctly, I'll post that picture of Kim Syberg's Ranulf conversion.

As requested this is a picture of Kim Syberg's original Ranulf conversion. While I wish I was modeling at painting minis my Wolves at this standard, obviously this is NOT my work. Even after all this time it's still an amazing model. Hope this helps inspire other Wolf Lords like it has me.
