CDR Grendelwulf
I was recently inspired by Ronin_ex's use of the Space Wolf list as an alternative to the Dark Angels codex. Rather than showing the feral might of a SW army, why couldn't it be used as a basis for the mechanized superiority of the Adeptus Mechanicus? The SW codex actually refers to bio-mechanics and cyber-creatures. It's just a few nuts & bolts away from the AM. Now, fluffiness is as fluffiness does. I do not mean to replace any of the accepted AM background. I only want to explore the possibility of adapting the SW rules for AM playability. As some AM players may want to use an accepted GW codex rather than a home-grown one, I thought this could be a viable option. So, please, chime in with your comments and advice. Adeptus Mechanicus Sagas (SW), now known as Chants (AM) Saga of the Wolfkin = Chant of the Machine Mind (instead of affecting nearby wolves, make them cyber-mastifs, or some similar creature) Saga of the Bear = Chant of the Machine Heart (Eternal Warrior rule) Saga of Majesty = Chant of the Omnissiah (...stature of kings and voice of ageless authority...) Saga of the Hunter = Chant of the Seeker (ability to outflank and stealth rules) Saga of the Warrior Born = Chant of the Fiery Forge (bonus to attacks based on kills from previous assault phase) Saga of the Beastslayer = Chant of Extermination (deliberately seeks confrontation, re-roll failed hits against walkers, monstrous, etc...) Saga of the Iron Wolf = Chant of the Machine Spirit (calls for stirring of machine spirits - 'nuf said) Psychic Powers, Technologies for Runic Enginseers (librarians/rune priests) Thunderclap = Voice of the Machine (sonic technology) Living Lightning = Hand of the Machine (arco-technology) Storm Caller = Rage of the Machine (vortex technology) Tempest's Wrath = Wrath of the Machine (Atmospheric-stimulators) Fury of the Wolf Spirits = Cry of the Machine (mini-psychic energy projector) Murderous Hurricane = Breath of the Machine (arctic/freezing technology) Jaws of the World Wolf = Fist of the Machine (vibrational technology) Force Organization HQ - Wolf Lord = Magos Mechanicus HQ - Rune Priest = Runic Enginseer HQ - Wolf Priest = Genetor (they are involved in bio-engineering) Elite - Wolf Guard = Heavy Praetorians Elite - Dreadnought = War Robot, Castellan variant Elite - Venerable Dreadnought = War Robot, Conqueror variant Elite - Iron Priest = Transmechanic (has Thrall-Servitors) Elite - Wolf Scouts = Tech-Adepts Elite - Lone Wolf = Logis Mechanicus Troops - Grey Hunters = Praetorians Troops - Blood Claws = Skiitari Fast Attack - Thunderwolf Cavalry = Tech-Adept with Robotic Maniple (Legio Cybernetica) Fast Attack - Fenrisian Wolf = Cyber-assault Robots Heavy Support - Long Fangs = Praetorians What do you think? Oliver Twist
I had roughly the same idea, however, I think the real beauty of the SW list is that it allows for such characters - all manners of mechanicus adpets, constructs, etc can be represented by Wolf Guard; let alone the Iron Priest or Thunder Wolf cav.
