Brother Santios
Well the title says it all really .... I like darker paint schemes with contrast highlights but is it considered lazy at all ? The reason I ask is that Space Wolves just seem to nail to be so blue ... strange but true ! Spacefrisian
Shadow Grey makes also a nice colour. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181316-painting-sw/#findComment-2146558 Share on other sites
Uthred Ragnarson
Shadow Grey makes also a nice colour. I use Shadow Grey and Space Wolf Grey 70/30 mix gradually highlighted up, seems to be working ok so far Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181316-painting-sw/#findComment-2146562 Share on other sites
Brother Santios
hmmm not sure ... Shadow Grey was my initial colour but just done a RP as a test mini and Fenris with SW Grey hightlights are looking very sharp atm .... I think i'll have to try a Blood Claw as the RP has that hella-wolf pelt on so doesnt quite give the full effect :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181316-painting-sw/#findComment-2146567 Share on other sites
Vilhelm
+1 for Shadow Grey/Space Wolf Grey. I base coat with shadow grey, then I shade up most of the model with a 50/50 mix and work my way up for some blending/hi-lights. If you are going with blue-ish greys, darker bases are better, as baby blue does not look good on Space Wolves. Grimmwulf
I paint my wolves with Fenris grey, give them skull white/fenris grey higlights and Brush some black ink over them. This makes the fenris grey into a much darker, shadowy blue. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181316-painting-sw/#findComment-2146721 Share on other sites

Brother Captain Kezef
I am using codex grey and I really like it, it's a darker, deeper grey. More wolfy I think. fearlessgod
I also decided on a darker grey tone. Here's what I'm using: 1. Basecoat with slightly thinned down Adeptus Battlegrey 2. Badab Black wash 3. Codex Grey for armour, leaving darker tones in recesses. 4. Highlight to taste 5. Pick out details Hope this helps... ~fearlessgod~ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181316-painting-sw/#findComment-2146895 Share on other sites

spacewolflars
No, Fenris gray isn't lazy, plastic gray would be lazy. Fenris gray doesn't look bad depending how you pull it off. El Scotcho
Prime Black, then basecoat with Adeptus Battlegrey, then a highlight of 50/50 Adeptus Battlegrey and Codex Grey, the an extreme edge highlight of pure Codex Grey. That's how I do mine, and the have a very dark Pre-Heresy look to them (or so I've been told). I haven't worked out how to do their pelts or pack marking yet though. Still, I may try that on some spare AoBR minis just to see the difference. ~featlessgod~ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181316-painting-sw/#findComment-2147253 Share on other sites
