NovaScotius
Hello, I've just finished building my first squad of the oh-so-shiny new Wolf Guard Terminators - Lovely kit, easy to put together, and an amazing array of bits in the box. I've now hit the problem of basing them, I have no idea what to do! Typically, I've always done a sand base, often in the Cities of Death style (Lots of grey, with the occasional skull or ammunition casing!), but that style of base will not work with my proposed Space Wolves scheme (dark grey). I've also always done it before priming the model, as I've found that it helps the sand stick to the base a little more. So I ask, does anyone else paint their Wolves in a dark grey colour, and if you do, what base do you use? I'm open to suggestions for basing, so go mad! Here's a picture of my intended colour scheme - It was taken from a phone camera, so the colour definition is not great - It's DARK grey, almost black, but definitely grey... http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y294/Immortal_King/PhonePicsOctober2009037.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y294/Immortal_King/PhonePicsOctober2009039.jpg Thanks! TeamLando
I also use Dark Grey then the codex..and I like my bases Grey, frozen and with thick snow here and there. Like, this. Like this :) Hope it helps o.ô I dunno what you think about the snow on the bases, seems to be different from player to player, but since they'r from fenris I suggest you try it, it's cool :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181354-basing-space-wolves/#findComment-2146903 Share on other sites
DragonPup
I use Adeptus Battlegrey and highlight with Fortress Grey. I add the snow after the painting is done and usually do 2 layers of snow patches. Also, another basing option is corkboard which can make the more dynamic models look ace. Here are how my Skyclaws look using a few layers of cork torn to look like a rocky peak. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2597/4001541888_fd9f6c9153_o.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181354-basing-space-wolves/#findComment-2146914 Share on other sites

TeamLando
Nope..sorry, never got and close-ups of that one WIP.. but I could take some when I do the next base. The tutorial linked there is pretty sweet though, although that's a bit more hard and icy snow in my eyes, I prefer the puffy snow :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181354-basing-space-wolves/#findComment-2147009 Share on other sites
El Scotcho
I'm personally rebelling against the snowy base trend, and going with a jungle themed base for my guys, who just happen to be a very dark grey like yours. Grimmwulf
My guys have a similar colour than yours. I glue sand to the base and then paint over it in snakebite leather. then i drybrush the base with bleached bone. looks like a muddy/desert planet. the bright base makes a nice contrast to the dark model.
