melabi
I was thinking of drop-podding a completely anti-mech squad. Long Fang - Squad leader : Melta gun - 2 LC - 3 MM WG in TDA - Heavy flamer (this is for those small.. whatever troops) Runepriest in TDA - Combi-melta, melta bomb Obviously, this is strictly for mech tau and mech IGs only. Where ever the pod drops, the squad should have various firing range(heavy flamer to lascannon), so a single pod dropped where intended should be a finishing blow to a mech army, and even if it goes somewhere unintended, it should stand decently, because it has various firing range. I was thinking of dropping..maybe two. So what do you think? Would it work? What would you change? Vassakov
In a Drop Pod? I'm sorry, but no competent foe will allow that unit to do anything as they'll be blown off the battlefield like that *snaps fingers* Deploy them towards the back field and snipe away. Alternatively, get Scouts and TDA by the bucketload. ORKILL
On the turn you dropped the LFs would not be able to shoot that turn, due to their weapons being Heavy. So, they would be shot at during your opponent's turn before you could fire....unless you put Logan in with them and gave them Relentless. An opponent tried this against me during an Apoc game a few weeks ago. He Stunned a Leman Russ.....and then promptly died to massed Lasgun fire. Toasterfree
your better off using troopers with meltas. full units of 10 so that you get two shots at each tank. and scouts out the butt Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181363-drop-podding-long-fangs/#findComment-2147108 Share on other sites
Hrathnar Flintfang
Personally, I never think drop pods are a good idea, but putting your previous Long Fangs in it? Forget about it. Stick them in the back, put them in a rhino or a Razorback if you like, it can help supplement their heavy firepower. Remember a Rhino or razorback can be good cover and a reliable transport, you can move it in front of your troops to help block some minor flack they would get otherwise and use it to move them out of harms way. A drop pod? well unless it has treds mounted on those doors somewhere It just stays put and lets your boys out into the middle of nowhere on their lonesome. White Hunter
I am debating putting some long fangs in a drop pod, and on objective missions drop them turn 1 onto of near a forward objective in cover. Then roll up in a rhino to meet it they can't shoot turn 1, but sit them on an objective to contest, and then hold it with a GH pack that is a huge fire base that provides cover for the rest of your army, and the drop pod and Rhino could act as great LOS blockers. Hotspur
LFs are too old to ride in drop pods, whelp! Best to just leave them in the rear to take care of business at range. If you're going to DP something into the middle of a bunch of mech Tau or IG, you'd be better off going w/ a MM dread. If you're thinking of DPing two, then the MM dreads are a must. Even better if you can find the points to make them venerable. Also, consider some BEL scouts w/ meltabombs and a melta gun... Good stuff! Grey Mage
I have no problem with DPing LFs- its not a bad idea. But placing them right next to the enemy is. Id drop the WGPL altogether, and run the wolf priest with the WG squad he origionated from.... and drop the LFs near cover... and then use their run move to get into it, and start firing turn 2.
