like many of you like me (long time sw players) i am annoyed that so many (ok nearly all) of the new players at my club are all doing sw just because their new and shinny. this spoils one of the good thing about wolves: the fact you were in an exclusive club at your local store that did wolves. thats why im doing wolf brothers, to make my army diffrent. what are our veiws on this?

p.s if your are a new player this is not driected at you. this opinon is based on what has happen at my local store over the past weeks.

There's only one thing for it: sit tight, grit your teeth, and take it like a Wolf.

Oh, and in the meanwhile, you might as well show those pups how it's done.

Honestly in places like where I live, the community is so small and always getting smaller, that anything that lights a fire under people and gets them re excited about the hobby, or anything to increase the odds of them playing regularly is a good thing. We have to drive 2-5 hours just to get to a tournament, and our entire state only has 5 places that sell it, and 3 that run tournies. Each shop does a tourny about once every 2 months. and still only have 8-10 people show up.

In closing.

Its a hobby, and a hobby with out people dies. Every person that now likes this army is supporting a gaming shop that caters to our needs and helping fuel the life of our hobby. So I have no hard feelings and hold no animosity. FOTM people change frequently and alot, but if I'm happy with my army I don't mind what others have.

New players will come and go. Don't let the newer players frustrate you. Look at it this way, YOU are the veteran "Old Wolf" in your area now. Share your knowledge with them and help them along. Chances are most won't stick with Wolves once the "New Codex Shine" has worn off.

~fearlessgod~

personally im not a fan of bandwagoners and the thing is that nearly all of them are power gamers (grrr they make me so mad) they find all the loop holes and exploits in our new dex and then we get known as a cheese army not a fluff army like were used to. i think i can safely bet that out of all the wolves on this forum the vast majority are fluff gamers

praise the fluff and praise russ

Amen to that brother.

I have been playing the wolves since 2002. Havent felt like playing another army. I have to say the fluff is 100 times better then the third edition 'dex. I see so many people buying the new models and all. But in all of the years playing at my shop I am the only one I see playing the space wolves. So I wonder what are they doing with them? Just keeping them away from me!? LOL oh well it happens. Cheers mates next round is on me! For the wolftime!!!
This is normal (though I haven't seen much of it at my club yet). These players will either decide they love the wolves and stick with them, or they'll move on when Nids codex come out or Blood Angels or something else that is shiny and new.

Yes, this sums it up. I look at this in the positive...... If they stay, then they have fallen in love with the wolves...if they leave, they gave us some attention and showed GW they had better keep the money flowing from SW players, and they have left the SW "club" behind.

It's a free world (for the most part).

As a player new to the Space Wolves myself, I'd like to offer an opposing argument. Consider the situation where Games Workshop spends their resources re-releasing the Space Wolves as they have done, a fantastic new Codex, and arguably some of the nicest models they've produced in plastic for a long time. Now, imagine what would happen if Games Workshop had spent this money, and the Codex was an utter flop - The book didn't sell well, and the plastics were on the shelves for months on end, as nobody bought them.

How much love do you think the Space Wolves would receive from Games Workshop in the future? I know they've not exactly been great to the Wolves in the past, but if they don't update a relatively popular Codex (In comparison to other Space Marine Chapter Codices!) in nine years, can you imagine how long it would be until another update? Or even worse... the Space Wolves could possibly be subsumed into the horror that is Codex: Space Marines! :pinch:

So, tolerate the new players, thank them for keeping the sale of Space Wolves up, wave them goodbye when the new shiny fad comes out, and take them for all they're worth when their models go up on Ebay! :tu:

Exclusive club you say? Do we get badges or something?

Ive been playing wolves for years... no one mentioned anything to me about a club. Dangit!

I look forward to absorbing their great companies into mine though....

I have been happy at seeing the numbers of SW players in the my gaming area rise...of the 5 that i know/have heard of, 2 of them are awesome people and very behind the fluff aspect of the Sons of Russ.

1 of them is a power gamer, who will play the book till the shinyness is gone, so he is not bother to me. just have to ride out the wave.

1 of them is onyl rumored to have to, which would bother me greatly due to his use of the codex marines as long as i have known him. if he turns wolf i'll be saddned.

1 of them is a blantant cheater in this region of the world, and is known as such. him using the army is bothersome, but since he is banned from the local tournies and events, i'll just wait till he plays the next codex.

but of the 2 new wolves first mentioned, i am happy to finally share my army with such people after playing them alone all these years.

I'll be looking out for these deals :) I'm a bit frugal!

I am still not sure if i will build a SW army or not, but otherwise i would be one of you new "bandwagon" players. It won't be for power because while the new codex is nice it isn't op, its because it suite my play style. The main reason i will play them tho is because i have always been tempted to start a SW army and the new miniatures what are just awesome (except the one riding the wolf thats just rofl material :P ).

Basically the miniatures just scream theme and so much detail to paint just looks like fun, not to mention they are basically the only chapter with a sence of humor and seem somewhat laid back. Anyway don't hate new players, because they help keep the hobby going and we need that. I won't be changing to nids ( i don't like xeno's, well maybe eldar) and already have BA, so yeah everyone needs a new army sometimes.

Well hopefully that makes some sort of sence ;) .

This self-entitled attitude of "noooo, I'm not unique anymore!" drives me nuts. As a vet, you should stop being selfish, and be more supportive.

I can agree with this.

I can also see the OPs point... its kinda like finding out your band has gone mainstream, or your little brother wants to drive the same car as you.

i felt like this not so long ago then i decided to show em how its done im a fluff puppy all the way so ill enjoy the new book (i so want to read prospeo burns by the way),in the mean time ill set the standard in my local stores and teach them blood claw chaps how its done and who knows maybe well end up being mates and going on to greater things like slaughtering nids in the new year :)

actually GW did in fact made SW more important role at least in their online store , we are the only SM army that has a separate section than other chapters XD

as for the new bandwagoners , let them come. Ive like to see new tryouts for ones who think they can fool the old wolves in the chapter and get away with it. They will either be shamed by other wolves or worst , their enemies because they are not real wolves to speak. They will eventually die out if they are not truthful to the ways of Fenris and yet try to stay on the same path.

Besides , its always a good thing to have a similar army to practice on , it helps you learn your army much more. XD cheers wolf brothers and chill till the wolf time comes.
