The Wolves of Winter

So me and several of my friends have started a small campaign and I figured that I would put up a battle report of my first battle against the villainous space marines. Unfortunately I am missing pictures but I figured that I would just have to make up for this by making it a story.

So a battle report between the Wolves of Winter (my space wolves) and the Ultramarines.

Well the game was seize ground and we were using a dawn of war deployment. The only real terrain that had any effect on the game was a large ruins in the center of the board that was about two feet long and one wide. with opposite corners missing from it. There was a objective in the center and one at either end of the building, just outside of it.

Prebattle

Rune Priest Revnik stared out across the wind swept landscape, snow stinging his eyes as he stared into the distance. His keen eyes cut through the dawn light and his nose tested the air for any foreign smells. Some were close, the smell of his pack brothers, the burning promethium of their rhinos, the smell of freshly fallen snow. But he could catch something, farther away, the smell of space marines, but not those of the Space Wolves.

The old Rune Priest scanned the landscape again, looking over the shattered remains of some long destroyed building. Its was barely visible under the drifts of snow, barely more than four broken walls, only about waist high on a marine now. Still the rune stones that were supposed to still be there were important enough for a small detachment of Space Wolves to be sent.

The Ultramarines didn't agree that they stones belonged to the Wolves though, they would learn.

"Brothers." Revnik yelled, his voice sounding easily even over the whipping wind. "We will have what we came for today. If you die then die with your wounds to the front, a weapon in your hands, and enemies at your feet." The old Space Wolf waved his arm forward and the column of vehicles and men started forward.

Turn 1 Wolves

Under the cover of darkness the Space Wolves charged forward, Revnik leading the young and impulsive blood claws, along with Wolf Guard Alvor. Bolt pistols bark in the blood claws hands, the overeager youths firing, the badly aimed blots striking the snow around the advancing marine tactical squad. Revnik tries to call upon his physic powers but is stopped both times by the librarians physic hood.

Both rhinos advanced forward, drawing up close to the broken walls of the building, using what was left for cover. While Lone Wolf Hannok charged forward, eager to enter the fray.

Turn 1 Marines

The Librarian drove his men forward, entering into rapid fire range with their bolters and open fire on the blood claws with their bolters and flamer. After the dust clears only one blood claw has fallen to the barrage of fire.

The marines in the rhino move forward as well as the assault terminators.

The predator opens fire on one rhino and blows large chunks out of the wall protecting it.

Turn 1

Space Wolves: 2 objectives

Marines: 1 objective

Turn 2 Wolves

Revnik and the blood claws move up close to the marine squad with the librarian and open fire, their wolf guard leader curbing their enthusiasm to charge. They end up striking down three marines with a combination of flamers and bolt pistols.

Both rhinos fire their hunter killer missiles but both miss the advancing marine rhino. While the lone wolf moves forward.

The blood claws charge forward, chainswords chopping, bolt pistols firing, power fist smashing, and thunder hammer crushing. In the end one blood claw died and seven marines died as well, ending up with just the librarian in close combat.

Turn 2 Marines

The assault terminators close in on the closest rhino while the predator opens fire and kills that closest rhino, the wolves inside pilling out.

The rhino charges towards the center objective.

The fight with the librarian goes slowly, the librarian only taking one wound enough through all the attacks and killing one more marine himself.

Turn 2

Space Wolves: 1 Objective

Marines: 0 Objectives

Turn 3 Wolves

The grey hunters who lost there rhino charge forward at the assault terminators firing their guns and killing both of the terminators with lightening claws before charging into to melee with them. The fight goes the assault marines say with them killing off two marines due to bad rolling on both sides but the grey hunters stick in combat due to the grey hunters leadership.

The other rhino turns around and heads back to the center objective While the lone wolf charges towards the rhino but is just out of range for its charge.

The librarian finally falls to the blood claws and they consolidate back towards the objective.

Turn 3 Marines

The predator opens fire on the remaining rhino, blowing chunks out of the wall again while the marines pile out of the rhino and shoot the lone wolf, dealing a wound to him.

The assault terminators and the grey hunters fight again, an assault terminator dying as well as two grey hunters but they all stay in melee.

Turn 3

Space Wolves: 1 Objective

Marines: 1 Objective

Turn 4 Wolves

Revnik breaks off from the blood claws and heads towards the marines while the blood claws take over the objective. Revnik uses jaws of the world wolf and kills two marines and casts storm caller.

The rhino moves up to the center objective and the plasma weapons fire out of the top, killing two marines while the lone wolf sets for the charge.

The assault termis and grey hunters fight again, each one loosing one guy in the combat. The lone wolf charges and kills three of the space marines.

Turn 4 Marines

Everything is holding an objective or in melee so most things stood still and Revnik went back to the blood claws for protection.

Lone wolf kills two marines and the other combat nothing happens.

Space Wolves: 2 objectives

Marines: 0 objectives

Turn 5 Wolves

Everything stays where it is.

The grey hunters kill their last termi and the lone wolf kills its last marines.

Turn 5 Marines

The marines only have the predator left and its fires on the rhino, blowing it up but the space wolves stay where they are. Nothing else is left and we roll to end the game. Two comes up so the battle is over.

Turn 5

Space Wolves: 2 objectives

Marines: 0 Objectives

Space Wolf Victory

Both of us agreed that he underestimated the assault power of the space wolves, especially when backed up by the wolf guard and the lone wolf. Still it was a fun game and I enjoyed making my space wolves.
