Space Wolf Truescale WIP; sugestions needed

I have been working on my truescale wolves... and I am having a bit of a problem. The picture below is my master\test figure of a Grey Hunter. I have truescaled and bulked out the legs and torsos (not going to monkey with the arms as they are too long anyway), but the chest and shoulders seem a little.. wussy to me. I am not sure if this is a side effect of the truescaling, or just that I need to add more details to the top of the torso. I still have to add some regular Space Wolf bits (Wolf Tails, rune amulets, etc) but if the top half of the figure needs some additional bulking out etc, now is the time to add it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or even some comments about the project so far?

Sorry about the image quality, it was a quick snapshot taken on the top of my computer desk lol.

Doesnt look to bad, though I admit Ive never truescaled anything before.

You might give him a wolf pelt handing from his powerpack... itll give him less of an hourglass look.

Hmm.. Wolf pelt over the shoulder.. That might do the trick.. also been thinking of doing something with the shoulder pads to bring some visual interest to the top 1\2 of the model.

It will be easier to add that bulk on the unhelmeted Grey Hunters, but this guy has his helmet on..

I found it hard to see what you'd done by the photo provided....can you take a better photo (more light, close up with 'macro', etc.)?

I have looked at a few TS marines lately. Synapse's pre-heresy World Eaters are very good but they seem like a lot of work. I like Apologist's pre-heresy Ultramarines more. Bulky and less stuffing about with green stuff.

It is not a link, but my computer skills are quite poor so you'll have to excuse me.

Go there and see what you think....

p.s. It IS a link! - clever computer!

Easy enough, I was running out of time tonight when I snapped that pic. I would have been late for work if I stopped long enough to set everything up nice and proper. I will take a better picture tomorrow morning when I get back home (6am pst) and post it. I did not realize the picture quality was so bad lol.

Apologist's pre-heresy Ultramarines do have a significant amount of greenstuffing involved from what I can tell. My legs are actually shimmed up using plastic card with a greenstuff skin around the lower leg (like SCIBOR’s).

Ok here are a pair of better shots of the Grey Hunter WIP.

I did not realize how off balance he was, so the next thing I am going to do is pop him off of his base and balance him a little better.

Once more C+C is welcomed and needed.

some mighty fine green stuff skill their. :)

Thank you. I am still learning to sculpt, much less work with Green stuff. So I am not entirely happy with the results. But the more I see the true-scaled Scibor style wolves, the more I like it.

The legs are just to beefy for the model... it looks like you put TDA legs on a normal guy... and without increasing the size of his torso some, I dont know what else to do.

Do you think that a Beefier shoulder pad would do the job (with perhaps a rune pendent or 2)? or do I seriously need to bulk out the chest (as in add another .5mm - 1mm thickness to both the chest and the abodomen)?

I think adding a little extra to the shoulder pads might help... but really you need to thicken the belt a bit.

Remember that old GH chestplate that had the "wrestling champion" style belt on it? With the wolf skull and all? Something like that out of GS would help set this guy up a bit.

I have some of those still.. lol. I picked up about 10 of the frames when GW was having a sale of some kind way back.

Will do something about that wasp waist effect sometime in the next 30 hours or so (still have another 11 hours of work to go this week before I get to go ape with the hobby). I like the weight lifter belt idea.. hmmm.. lifter belt, bulkier shoulder pads, and a rune necklace ought to help with the bulk some.

Ok, bulked him up and added detail\bulk to the top half of the figure. I also swapped out his Bolt Pistol with a bolter, it adds some additional vertical motion\interest so I am happy with it. The left knee pad as your looking at the figure will be getting a Great Company marking painted on.

1 down, 13 or so more to go to finish this round of figures for the escalation Toury.

  • 2 weeks later...

Been sick as a dog, so work on these guys has been slower than hoped for. Here are some new WIP shots. GS still looks a little rough, and the Grey Hunters need work still, but it is shaping up.
