Logan Grimnar:

"Such is his skill at command that you may choose one of the following special rules at the beginning of each turn: Fearless, Tank Hunters, Relentless, Preferred Enemy. Logan and any unit he is with have that rule for the duration of that player turn."

Pretty crystal clear, right?

Except now you've got people interpreting is as he can't use it if he's in a drop pod, because he's "not on the table" at the start of the turn.

But, like everything else in the Wolf codex, that's not what it says. The way it is written, essentially, even in the turns the unit is not on the table, they still get the special rule. They're just not on the table to use it. "At the beginning of the turn" clearly just means you can't wait until the assault phase to see if you need Tank Hunters before deciding to use Preferred Enemy.

People seem to be pointing to the way psychic powers work (just like people keep pointing to the template rules for Jaws of the World Wolf), but this is not a psychic power (just like Jaws is not a template). It's a simply worded rule that works the way it works.

There is another train of thought that points to a ruling in the Chaos codex, but we all know FAQs are instance-specific, so that's not helpful, either.

I'm gathering opinions.

This is what i think:

ITs a special rule.....

Like being fearless (or relentless) so you always have it.

His special rule involves a choice, which says nothign about being on the table.

SO he does have it at all times, even when off the board.....as far as i can tell.

Because it is a special rule, not a spell..... so no test to do it, i don't think its really in question (but then i didn't think the wolf guard as troops was either...)

I really can't believe that some people can't "get" how it works..

It's plain and simple; is it the beginning of the turn? y/n

If Y: unit gains X ability

If N: unit does not gain X ability

By the "Well, it's something you chose, so he has to be on the table for it to work" argument, I'd say that Ulrik's power to up one model's stat doesn't work if you keep him in reserves, as it says you have to pick a model, and you can't "pick" anything unless he's on the table.

a thread asking this exact question was closed becasue it was getting no where and people were unable to come to an agreement.

please use the following method if there is a problem with yours and your opponents intrpretations of the rules- roll a dice, on a 4+ your right anyhting else the opponent is right. then wait for an faq.

here is the previous thread detailing the arguements for and against http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...p;hl=relentless

please don't keep reopening old threads

Thank you, and thank you...this is the best way to solve this one

Yes it seems simple to us of The Fang, but everyone else is wanting to find something "broken" in our new codex, and failing miserably, so they're trying to question the non-hazy wording to create something to bitch about. I say wait until the official FAQ, and until then use the dice rule as described above if your opponent is a whiny bitch, and then don't play that person regularly after that.

Also I think its about time I bought people another round of ale, because its been a while, so everyone have one on me.
