dublindawg Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 I am working on a 5-man squad of scouts and I have been working out what to take for gear. So far I have selected the following: 1 - Wolf Scout with MotW, no special gear as he uses teeth and claws to attack due to Wulfen 2 - Wolf Scout with Plasmagun 3 - Wolf Scout with BP and CC The concern I have is, should I give the remaining 2 scouts Plasma Pistols? The overall cost of the unit gets steep and I could save 5pts if I opted to go with melta bombs instead. I am also planning to add a WG in PA with a PF and combi-melta. C&C appreciated. Toasterfree Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 what is the purpose of your scouts? is there a better load out for them? would a power weapon work better for you then MOTW (imo yes MOTW is over rated) if your going to go melta bombs and use them in an AT role, take a melta gun instead. you want the best weapon for their roll, if that is AT then you want the AP1, if its AP then you want all the plasma you can get, and you want all the scouts that you can get, maybe even some snipers. the weapons you pick are based on what they job will be. dublindawg Posted October 13, 2009 Author Share Posted October 13, 2009 With having the 3+ to OBEL, I plan on using them to pop tanks and destroy any small units that may be hiding in cover at the rear. I am mainly building my force for fun and fluff 1st and wins 2nd. With this in mind, I opted to convert 1 scout to have the MotW and have him wearing a full pelt of a white wolf. He will be the truely crazy one in the pack, will he get killed quickly? Probably, but then again should he get into CC to rip off heads and make a dent will be all the more worth it. Toasterfree Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 to kill tanks and take out infantry i would then take the MG instead of PG, PP on two guys, MBs, i would still leave the MOTW out and take a PW, which he can still be a crazy man in h2h. i just really havent seen MOTW pay off yet even in my GH squads and may take it out and instead opt those points for a WG or something. So 2 PP it is for the remaining scouts that need to be built. I will go back and add some meltabombs as well to the models. I want to give the MotW a test run, so I will keep that for now. If it doesn't work I will just have a really cool looking scout charging the enemy. Thanks for the suggestions. deedark Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 I generally run 5 wolf pack MG 2xPP 2XBP+CCW Points allowing I add another scout with BP+PW or WG with PFist Primary role tank hunting, secondary role just being a nuisance and offering a large distraction I dont usually take MBs on scouts I found I wasnt using them, but I may add one to the Wguard With the new codex allowing more than 1 BEL scout pack I may take 2 see how it goes D. Toasterfree Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 i still wouldnt waste MOTW on your scout, cause you have to give the whole unit MBs, then you have this MOTW guy that you paid 35 points for that cant even use 5 points of that. its either MBs or no MBs, and if your not going MBs then you can add a PW to a guy, but I say MBs cause of you shoot and dont kill the vehicle then you can assault it and kill it. and you would get 5 MB attacks in stead of 4 MBs then 1 guy doing d6+1+1 at st 4, looking for a lot of 6s. scouts are not meant to be an assaulty unit, you just give them the AP weapons incase they HAVE to do that. otherwise they are better at tank killing, and even though I think its not very wolfy they are the best marine snipers out of the 5e dexes.
