Long Fangs and Rune Priests

Okay I was wondering on the split fire option for the Long Fangs, if an IC namely the Rune Priest were to join the squad would he too gain the benefit of split firing or would he force the entire squad to shoot at one target?

Fire Control: ... As long as the Squad Leader is still alive and does not shoot in the Shooting phase the unit may split its fire and fire at two different targets instead of one....

To spell it out for you, yes, the Long Fangs (and any attached Characters/Wolf Guard) benefit from Fire Control. You're still limited to a maximum of 2 separate targets.

yeah there is no problem with that. it doesn't state the rule doesn't apply to attatched characters or models, the only stipulation is that the pack leader is alive and kicking (but not shooting).

i've recently been using my rune priest on his own though, he took a round of shooting from a mob of ork lootas the other day and lost 1 wound (my friends face when i saved about 20 shots). i find it may make him bit more vulnerable to shooting but it means the opponent has to sacrifice one units shooting to deal with him (keep him cheap if you do this, and i know not many will agree with this idea).

in my opinion puttng him in with long fangs is a mistake. these two units are our only real ranged infantry (assuming you give him living lightning) and putting them together will make it too tempting a target for the enemies long range anti infantry fire power.

if your not taking living lightning put him in with grey hunters as he will see more action there and there will be more ablative wounds around him.

(my friends face when i saved about 20 shots)

I lol'd. As a side note, you shoulda seen my friends face when his demon prince got charged by a unit of imperial guard conscripts. They caused 4 wounds, he rolled 4 ones. Demon prince killed in a single round of combat by the imperial guards grunts. He raged so hard...

Anyways, I agree with stinken, IC's with LF's generate a large juicy target. Although you could try using that to your advantage...
