Some interesting fluff.

probably secured each section as they took it and set up supply caches.

But that reeks of organisation! Hehehe. I remember people thinking the Wolves had little/no tactical sense. A good answer there. I just hope they had enough ale to last them.

I'm guessing this is the Starkrusha story in the new Codex?

As Kezef said, they probably looted the lootas. There would be enough spare equipment lying around to scavenge some working weaponry - promethium and rounds would have been plentiful, and if all else fails you can beat them to death in close combat. Remember, a Marines power armour is functionally unlimited when it comes to battery power and Marines can, in the worst case scenarios eat virtually anything. Not nice, but better than death...

And when you think about it, some Space Hulks are planetoids... imagine mile after mile after mile of twisted, malevolent passages filled with Orks...

A good hunt, in other words!

Much as the Soul Drinkers series may be mediocre, Counter's description of the Brokenback brings to mind how massive a hulk can get. Take how massive a regular, line cruiser is in an Imperial fleet. Now, take a dozen or so comparable vessels and mash them together. Not just miles, but hundreds of miles of passageways, chambers, and gun decks to scour, search, and plunder.

Glorious.
