Karsus
Hello, I'm just a new pup who just started Warhammer 40k and began to collect Space Wolves. Yes, I chose SW because it's new and shiny at first, but as more and more I learn about this army I get more and more fond on it. For the Russ! Well, I just began to collect the army, so I don't have actual full army to start the game yet, but I want to know before I begin how old SW players played against other armies. How did you guys played against them? What tactics did you guys used? What things do I need to do and avoid against each army? If I'm asking disrespectfully, or my question is too much, I apologies. But, I don't want to see the Wolves lose because of my lack of knowledge.... Thanks for your time. Again, for the Russ! For the Wolftime! I dont suppose you could narrow it down to say... against eldar? or tau? or orks? Like the other day, foul orks assaulted an imperial outpost just two systems from where my GC was on patrol, and so we did drop onto the planet and held against them... it was glorious. My Long Fangs and Whirlwind deployed farther back in cover and fired again and again upon the horde while my Grey Hunters watched the approachs with Venerable*dreadnaught* brother Darkwombs assault cannon at their aid. Main foul works were ripped to shreds by shrapnel before they even got close, and the rest were slain in glorious close combat... save for his Lootas, who instead had to feel the bite of a few more frag missiles while we finished up. It was a great day to be a space wolf. Karsus
Sorry. I think I'll go against Eldar, Nids, and Chaos, most of the time (my friends who introduced 40k to me, but I'll meet others too, eventually.) Grey Mage
Ahh... Eldar are at fast, tricky race. The flexability of their army list is second to none in the game and almost every unit has its own special rules. Fear not the xenos though.... if something doesnt make sense, ask to see your opponents book, that you might read it and better absorb the knowledge- maybe hes misremembered, maybe youll learn something. dragon950
I've had good luck against the Eldar, but more bad luck too. Best thing to do is take 2 or 3 grey hunter squads depending on points and have them hold off whatever the eldar player rushes up to you. Then take 1 or 2 blood claws to tie up anything that deep strikes or pops up. I usually have a dread and now some wolf guard deep strike and pound down anything that is shooting at you from their back line. Heavy support is going to be important, have a squad of long fangs with high powered weapons, and predator with the auto-cannon turrent and las-cannons on the side with a whirlwind for support. This will also work for orks unless the player is a speed freak player, only played 2 games like that and lost both. Can't give you a good one for chaos, used to win against the chaos players by overwhelming them with power attacks. Going to have to come up with a new way to win. foolishzero
If you're asking what you need in general I would say grab some of the basics. You'll want two to three troops choices. So I would grab a couple boxes of the new troops. You'll also want and HQ, maybe a Wolf Lord or a Rune Priest. Grab a Rhino and a Dreadnaught and you have yourself a small army that can stand up to most other armies. As you become more familiar with the Space Wolves start to grab things you'll like. You might want to eventually pick up scouts or some terminators. Good luck!
