Foot-Slogging, Armored, or Hybrid?

Prototype

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the many new threads I've made lately, but I have many, many questions as I build my new army :)

Are you guys running a foot-slogging army, armored (i.e. everything is in a transport of sorts) or a hybrid (one or two transports, rest on foot)? I was kinda set on Drop Pods, only to be told today that it might be a good idea to just simply field something like 4 squads of 10 Grey Hunters, attach a Terminator WG to each one of the squads, and run forward.

So many decisions.....

Many thanks in advance.

I'm running a foot-slogging force, and I'd have to say that so far (only 3 games w/ new dex) it has worked... well, not great, but not bad either.

My list goes something like this:

WP w/ 15 BCs

4x 10 GHs

3x Land Speeders

Dreadnought w/ TLLC; ML

2x Lone Wolves in TDA

+ stuff that I can afford to get into the pts limit.

I find it a lot more fun than a mech army, but also more difficult to play. You really have to beware of pie plates coming your way, using cover and running whenever you can. Your squads have a potential 7-12" move every turn, and if you foot-slogg you really need to use that. Also, go long range fire. I have almost none, but I'm honna add 2x5 Long fangs as soon as I can.

I run a hybrid because I have some packs dedicated to sitting at home. But my transport option tends to be one or more of my many Land Raiders, so I don't play mech, I play proper armoured units.

But fitting two raiders in 1500 points isn't feasable.

Thinking about trying all mech for 'base' army at 1850 and 2000 points. Past that I think I will be able to afford the Wolf cav or Blood Claws with WG leader that I would use for slogging, so probably hybrid in most other lists.

NEVER drop pods though, never really got the appeal.

My army design is to quickly surround my opponent.

I use Fenrisian Wolf Packs running and Drop Poding Hunters and Guard to overwhelm my opponent on all fronts :D So aside from the drop pods (which i barely consider to be vehicles) I don't use armor.
