Levitas
I want my Rhinos to look much more wolfy than the bog standard vanilla type. Is there any decent conversions that spring to mind? Besides over abundance of tails and FW bits? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181771-wolfing-up-the-humble-rhino-any-ideas/ Share on other sites
Vlk
Well, that depends. If you're a good painter, I suggest you try to paint something wolfy and glorious on the Rhino's armour... it always looks brilliant when somebody does that. And you could perhaps add some skulls and trophies... kegs of ale attached to the sides or so... add a Space Wolf in the hatch... cover it in protective runes... And post the results ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181771-wolfing-up-the-humble-rhino-any-ideas/#findComment-2151596 Share on other sites
dublindawg
One of the ideas I am considering to Wolf/Viking up my rhinos is to attach shields to the side of the rhinos. Skirnir Ragefang
If you have some bitz lying around, you can add a Wolf sitting on top of the Rhino with the storm bolter from the new sprues. Wolf Lord Karulfr
Aside from the afore mentioned shields, I plan to use the backpack banner poles atop my rhinos. Ideally, I'd like to use the vehicle icon from the old space wolves kit but I'm not sure I'll be able to get my hands on them. greese_m0nkey
If you are useing it as a dedicated transport you can paint the same pack marking on the top doors as you use on the shoulder pads for the squad. Grimmwulf
Scribbling little Runes all over it also looks really good. You can also model little bits of fur hanging here and there with minimal greenstuff skills. CoinReturn
I'm going with the pack markings on the top doors as well as painting/etching runes into the armor. I've used the squad markings before but etching is going to be a new experience. Skoll Brandulf
if you have a few bucks you can afford to toss around haphazardly, I suggest buying the space wolf brass etching from forgeworld. Putting those on the hatches looks awesome. If you don't want to spend the money on the etchings, I would say paint runes on the doors. Since the hatches are on the side and rear, I write runic wards used by the ancient Norse. Getting the wolf cape from the BC/GH sprue and making it a hood ornament also looks nice. Another thing I did was model a rambunctious Blood Claw riding atop the Rhino, boasting and shooting insults and the opposing army. Another thing that works is attatching a small chain to the side of the rhino, then use bits from other armies and create a gory trophy rack. For me, it was the mangled remains of enemy officers. AdeptusDavidus
In addition, add the Space Wolf crewman as a figure standing atop the Rhino with reins reaching down through the hatches, howling and brandishing a storm bolter. Heimdal
A couple of sample pics of my vehicles http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Madmaster/Land%20Raider%20Crusader/LRCFinished02002Small.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Madmaster/Land%20Raider%20Crusader/LRCFinished02001Small.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Madmaster/Landspeeder2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Madmaster/Vindicator/IMGP0111.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Madmaster/Leman%20Russ%20Exterminator/LRE002Small.jpg Its really easy to make wolf pelts from green stuff. Just get a properly sized flat piece of GS and use a toothpick to make small holes in it. Yeti
There are plenty of options. Painting the pack marking on the top hatch is one good way, and it makes it easier to identify which rhino belongs to which squad. If you're handy with green stuff, you can try to mold pelts or patches of fur. One thing I did was use bits of sprues to represent extra armor. I then used green stuff to "extend" the bits of sprue into points ... give it a sorta toothy look which I like. I have a pic of it in my album, it's the blood claw rhino (see sig). I've also cut up some plasticard into runes and glued them to the outside. Paint them in a different color (I use a metallic blue) to make them stand out. I even use them to represent extra armor ... of the runic variety. If you have the cash, the FW stuff is really superb. I've got both the rhino and land raider hatches, the SW icons (also visible on the BC rhino in the album) as well as the brass etch. It really adds that little bit of extra "bling" that really makes them stick out. The brass etch even comes with runic license plates ... how cool is that! Levitas
Certainly got the ideas flowing, very inspiring. Many thanks fellow wolves! Levitas
Fantasy shields of some sort. I just scanned the bits sites and you can pick them up. The good thing about wolves is that we can take stuff from Fantasy Battle. I better buy my fantasy playing friends more ale... Upon further checking out of the fantasy range. There is shields and fur in the Marauder range, and barrels and plates in the ogres. Plus a few useful items in with the. orks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/181771-wolfing-up-the-humble-rhino-any-ideas/#findComment-2153041 Share on other sites
Token
Yeah, i have used some marauder parts to make feral looking marines, but those shields, don't know which box they are from, i like the wooden shields with metal.. what is it called when it is around the shield like that? Heimdal
Those shields are from the Skeleton Warrior box. Got a bunch of them through a bitz supplier on the net (cant find them on their site now though). I had to greenstuff the center to make it look proper. Audun
My new rhino is covered in extra armour, mainly, stuff looted from an Imperial Guards chimera depot, all welded onto the rhino by my iron priest, who, by my space wolves logic, is fed up of fixing the rhinos after every battle and decided to get 4 blood claws to help him toughen 'em up. 1 to distract the guardsmen, 2 to help the priest take the chimeras apart, and 1 to pull the cart of loot. Result, the Space Wolves pattern SuperRhino (in apocalypse, armour values are 12,12 11) If thats not Wolfy, i don't know what is.
