We will probably be playing a Sieze ground mission, but I will have to wait and see.

I did take the liberty of setting up the board before he got here to save some time.

We did decide to play the Sieze ground mission, rolled for Objectives ending up with three and a Dawn of War deployment.

There were 2 objectives to the left side of the board and one to the right, all not too far off of center. I won the roll for first turn and chose to select board edge and deploy first.

I deployed my smaller GH pack in a ruin on my left side, right on an Objective deciding early on that I was going to go for 2 Objectives and give up the 3rd. I deployed my second GH pack behind that same ruin, positioned back a little, in order to support the Smaller GH pack, and the BloodClaws that would be coming on in thier Rhino.

I decided to have my whole army come in on my First turn with the exception of the 2nd Drop Pod of course.

Brian then deployed, placing his Tactical Squad with Plasma Cannon in the ruin on the opposite side of the board, to his left, the side with just one Objective. He also deployed his Rhino in the ruin, I asked him about that and he just replied that he had good reason for this...

He then declared that he was going to keep one Tactical squad in reserves and have the rest of his army arrive on his first turn.

He attempted to steal the initiative but failed.

In my First turn I bring on my Pod. Seeing as he decided to bunch up his Tactical Squad in a ruin, I decide to attempt to capitalize on this and put my Dreadnought there. I know I said I wasn't going to go for this Objective, and I'm not, but I need to make it seem important to my opponent.

My Pod doesnt scatter, I place my Dread behind the ruin with a near perfect line of fire to his tactcial Squad. I then bring on the rest of my units. My Predator comes in a full 12" to support the GH packs with the Rhino following behind, using it for cover. My bike units come on fast and position themselves to make it look like I was going to fight for the Objective he was holding.

gallery_743_2103_262560.jpg

My Dread opens fire, I get NINE hits with the heavy flamer, and all four of my Assault cannon shots hit! I anxiously roll to wound, 4 wounds... ;) out of 13, Brian rolls his saves and loses 1 Marine.

I can see what kind of game this is going to be...

Brian begins to bring on his troops, just as I had hoped he commits quite a bit to saving the Objective he is currently holding. Bringing up the Vindicator, his Terminator Squad with Assault Cannon, and a Tactical Squad in a Rhino. His Crusader, with the mean Assault Squad and Chaplain are all he brings in on my Strong side (like its not enough ;) )

In his movement phase he does suprise me abit. He makes a difficult terrain check for the squad in the ruin and embarks in thier Rhino. However when he tries to move the Rhino to reposition the squad, he immobilizes it in the terrain.

With minimal shooting available to him, he rolls to see if his Terminators can spot the Dreadnought through the ruin, he can and he opens fire with his assault cannon. He manages to land a lucky penetrating hit through the ruin, and I fail my Concealment save. He immobilizes it. Did I mention that I can see what kind of game this is going to be?

To be continued...

I begin my 2nd turn, rolling for reserves, and my Pod with Wolfguard arrives.

After some thought, I decide to continue with my feint on my right side and drop the Pod on my opponents side of the ruin with my Wolfguard taking positions behind the Red Skulls Rhino.

I continue to push with my Bikers as well, hoping to draw more of his army to this side of the battlefield and away from the Two markers I want to control.

gallery_743_2103_712559.jpg

On the "real side" of the Battlefield, I slide my Predator to the left 6" just in front of the ruins, as I begin to shift my Large GH pack, behind the tank in order to take a few shots with my Assault cannon, my smaller GH pack backs up a bit, to avoid a potential up coming charge from the Crusader's deadly cargo.

In my shooting phase, the combined fire of the Wolfguard and the Dreadnought destroy the Rhino and force the Tactical squad out and into the ruin, behind the rhino.

I shoot with my Twin Linked Lascannons and Assault Cannon at the Land Raider but don't even scratch it.

In his 2nd turn, Brian's Tactical squad in reserves does not arrive. He moves forward a full 12" with his Land Raider and Pops his smoke. On his left flank, the Red Skulls shift thier Rhino behind the ruin Six inches in order to Rapid fire at the Plasma gun from the rear hatch at the Wolfguard, his Vindicator shifts to get a shot on my Dread.

The Combined firepower of the Tactical Squad in the Ruin, the Shots from the rear hatch of the other Rhino, and the Terminator Squad kill all 3 Wolfguard Terminators. His vindicator scatters and misses my Dreadnought.

Turn 3 for the Space Wolves begins with me shifting my front. I turbo boost the majority of my Bikers hard, back to my left 24" preparing to defend the 2 Objectives. Knowing the Red Skulls will attempt to respond, the WolfLord with Thunder hammer and Saga of the Bear, takes his bike into the Red Skulls lines to attack the Rhino with the Tactical squad in it.

I move my Predator another 6", directly towards his Landraider. (I only move the Predator 6" for 2 reasons, 1. I want to take a pot shot at the landraider and 2. I want to make it a juicy target, and hope he takes the bait and goes for it.) My Rhino moves 12" and positions itself behind the Bastion and takes the 2nd Objective. Both tanks are positioned to Channel the Land raider, to his right or backwards. There is enough room for me to shoot with my GH through but not for him to move his Terminator Squad through, they will have to go around.

I shift my Large GH pack for some shots from the assault cannon.

gallery_743_2103_66208.jpg

The combined shooting from the Assault Cannon and Twin linked las, causes a cannot shoot result on the Landraider. The Dread manages to blow the gun off of the Vindicator, My Wolflord only takes the Stormbolter off of the Rhino with his attacks.

In Brians 3rd Turn his Rhino decides to arrive and he deploys it far to his right to attempt to support the Landraider, Chappy and Termie Assault squad. The deadly cargo of the Crusader gets out and move to the right, surrounding (just as I had hoped) the Predator.

On the other side of the board, My Wolflord succeeded, his entire left side (instead of moving to back up the Landraider) concentrated all of thier firepower on the Wolf Lord. It took every bit of the firepower from 2 Tactical Squads, and the Terminator Squad to fell the Lord.

In an impressive display the Terminator Squad show the Wolves thier Awesomeness by totally destroying the Predator and blowing it off the board, leaving nothing but a smoking crater. (this was actually a good thing for the Wolves as you will soon see :) )

In my 4th turn, with the large Assault Terminator squad with the Chaplain knocking hard on my door, I decide they must die. Immediately.

I shift with both bikes packs, bringing one towards the Land Raider and the other towards the Terminator Squad, my smaller GH pack advances back through the ruin and onto the Objective taking up Rapid fire positions. My BloodClaws Disembark from thier Rhino and set up right in front of the Terminators prepared to head the charge, as my other GH pack positions themselves in a support role.

gallery_743_2103_49243.jpg

On the other side of the Battle field, the combined Firepower of my Drop Pods and the Dreadnought, kill 4 Tactical Marines.

The combined firepower of my Bike pack, 2x Greyhunter packs, and the BloodClaws is impressive. When the smoke clears only two Terminators remain, one of each a Thunderhammer and Lightning claw.

I charge with the Bloodclaws, and the Bloodclaw bikers and finish them off,

gallery_743_2103_201774.jpg

the other Biker pack charges the Landraider and with Powerfist swinging wildly and the planting of several melta-bombs, I immobilize it, and blow off the majority of its weapons.

In his 4th turn, he tries to manage a counter assault. He brings his Vindicator over to provide cover for his Full Tactical squad, while his other Termie squad and the remnants of the other Tactical squad start moving to take "his" Objective. The Rhino that just came on last turn lurches forward its full 12" and pops its smoke. In his assault phase with my bikers still in contact with his Landraider, I finish it off.

In my 5th Turn, I back up my supporting Biker pack and prepare to launch an assault onto his Objective in Turn 6 (if thier is one), I begin to advance with my other packs, in an effort to halt the approaching Rhino, blasting at it all the while. It blows up but fails to hurt or pin any of its cargo.

I attempt a charge with my Large GH pack, but fail to roll high enough on my difficult terrain roll. My other BloodClaws pack charges and Blows up the Vindicator.

gallery_743_2103_248023.jpg

In his 5th turn be makes a difficult terrain check for his Squad in the crater where his Rhino used to be and rolls low. Fearing he will fail an assault he goes for the tie, and hopes the game will end by making a "Run" move with this squad and getting close enough to contest that objective. On the other side of the board the combined firepower of the remnant tac squad and the other Termie Squad destroy the Drop Pod giving him that Objective. He continues his advance with his other Tactical Squad in case the game continues.

gallery_743_2103_777951.jpg

Rolling to see if the game continues he rolls a ONE!!!! Argh! we tie each controlling one objective. ;)

For tie-breaking we go to Kill Points, looking at the board he took 3 from me; One of my WolfLords, a Drop Pod, and the Predator.

He lost a Vindicator, a Chaplain, a Terminator Assault Squad, a Landraider, a Rhino a loss of 5 Kill Points.

So a win for the Wolves using our clubs tie-breaking method.

I must say, I am not unhappy with the way my army performed in this game. In order for him to pull that tie, the game had to end there, I had him where I wanted him and he really had no other options at that point.

I think his biggest mistake was buying into my fake assault and dedicating so much in the way of resources on the side of the board with one Objective. had he concentrated and attack on the side of the board where I was taking the 2 Objectives the whole game dynamic would have changed.

Maybe I worded it wrong, James. I said I'm no UN-happy. My fault for being confusing with my wording.

You are right, the Wolves did quite well, and it was just dumb luck the game ended when it did.

No, I just misread your post.

I really enjoyed reading that. I was a bit upset when they took away our attack bike fast attack option, but I can see from your playing that they are still quite viable with the Bikers (another favourite unit of mine). Great game, congrats.
