Confused

Ok, I usually have my black templars on the go, but recently started my own DIY type army and using the SW codex as the rules(so yeah, pretty much SW).

I sat down to build my 1st "counts as" grey hunters last night and read thier wargear. Its says they have a bolt pistol, bolter and a CC weapon as thier standard wargear.

My question is, how does that work, both game play and modelling wise?, For example... is that to say I could model a marine with a bolter in one hand and a pistol in the other and the CC weapon stowed away at side or across the back ??

I know might be best in rules section, but probably better response in the wolves forum.

thanks.

The advise I've given in the chaos area (as Chaos Marines/Plague Marines/Noise Marines all have hte same gear) is to model a few with each option. My own chaos marines are modeled so some are just bolter. Some have bolter and chainsword (the old True Grit look), some have bolt pistol and chainsword, some have bolter and bolt pistol. It isn't easy to make a model with all 3 look good (though the bolter in one hand, the sword in the other and the pistol in a holster works). You don't really need to show all 3 on each model.

As for game play, you always have the extra attack in close combat for 2 weapons, can fire the bolter and not charge or fire the bolt pistol and be able to charge.

I have not had a chance to model new wolves yet, but for my chaos marines I modelled them in a variety of ways(bolter in one, BP in other, CCW and BP with bolter strapped at the hip, Bolter with ccw in other hand and pistol on hip)

This really let's you make each model unique.

You can basically use an AoBR model and have it be a Grey Hunter, the BP and CCW are generally considered to be on the GH. If you want to model one with a bolter in one hand and BP in the other, you can do that too. I have done this and it looks really cool.

Game wise this setup gives you a +1 on the assault and counter assault so you would get 3 attacks on either of those.

Cool, thanks for the fast replies guys/gals.

Its what I thought for the extra attack, as was thinking an extra bolter round when shooting under 12",

So used to BT's and standard SM's where you buy the extra CCW.

Cheers again.

Let the modeling comence.

If they are painted Space Wolf grey and are holding a holy bolt rifle, this would normally be all you need to distinguish it from any blood claw pack or wolf guard pack. Since you probably won't be space wolf grey, I'd try to go for a bolt rifle in one hand and a CCW in the other.

Most of mine were modeled from back in the true grit days, and therefore have a bolter in one hand and a chainsword or knife in the other.

I've been going back and adding holsters to a lot of my grey hunters. On some models I tried gluing bolt pistols to the legs. On these I shaved down the inward side of the pistol a lot and cut off the sight and part of the stock, as they look too bulky otherwise.

IIRC, there's a hostered boltgun bit on a kit, think its the biker kit but I might be mistaken. Otherwise, I just stow extra bolters beneath the marine's power pack if they're rocking bolt pistol and ccw.

We need a sheathed chainsword bit. Or heck, just a chainsword divorced from an arm. Obviously we can convert it, but it would be nice if that weren't necessary...

You technically don't have to model them with all three choices if you tell your opponent that your army counts as Spaces and what each unit is representing. The reason you don't have to show this is because the Bolter, Bolt Pistol, and Chain Sword are all apart of the rules. However, you would have to represent power weapons, power fists, wolf claws, or any other special weapons.

You should be unique like a lot of my other Wolf Brothers have said though and just throw some things everywhere. Just make it look good!
