El Scotcho
Ok so I'm in the Wolf Lord Contest, and here's what I've come up with so far. This is not the base I'll be using, and he is still very much WIP. Comments and Critiques are welcomed, as I am very new to greenstuff work. One note, his Storm Shield is a temporary until I can make one with his great company symbol on it. On with the pictures. From the Side From the Front From the Back Again I emphasize, Comments and Critiques are encouraged, because I'll never get better without the help of my brethren. El Scotcho
Sorry for the double post, but for some reason it wouldn't let me edit. Anyhow, when my little sis gets back, I'll have her help me take some more detailed pics so you can see the face better, so that you guys can tell whats those greens blobs are supposed to be (hopefully). dublindawg
Is it safe to say that the polearm is a Frost Blade? Also what did you use for the staff? I like the concept, but to me the Canis wolf proportion is too bulldog framed in my mind. Maybe if the body was longer with a more muscular back side it would look ok. El Scotcho
Yes the spear is a Frost Blade, for wargear purposes. The staff is the banner pole from the 'nilla Marines Command Squad. As for the build on the Thunderwolf, thats a lot out of my league as far as conversions go. I may eventually attempt something of that magnitude, but for right now I'll work within my limits. I do agree with you on the sculpt though. Noice on the face of the wolf, I had to cover up the fish eye that they stuck him with, as it was bugging the  out of me. I'm currently trying to figure out how to sculpt more armor for the wolf, because I think it would look slightly better with more armor on, and it would more justify the 3+ invulnerable save that the model would have. I think, if I ever get good enough, that I will prolly use a High Elf White Lion for the base of the Thunderwolf, because the sculpt looks long and low enough to me, and the armor that is on the model is more sensibly placed, and easier to sculpt from. I have been asking around my FLGS for advice, and someone told me to get some Brown Stuff to make armor out of, because it holds hard shapes like armor and sword edges better than Green Stuff, but it is supposed to be harder to work with. I can't find anywhere locally that sells it, so I think I will have to go to the internet to look for some. If anyone has a link, please PM me so I can get some. dublindawg
Somewhere on here Old [forget the rest of his name] used the lion from the elf set, it turned out pretty good. I haven't seen it painted up so if he reads this.....lets see it finished. I haven't worked with any brown stuff, but I did pick up some milliput and will be using this evening as I start my WL on a TWM. I opted for a non-GW mount as I cannot bring myself to drop the money on the elf box set to just get 2 lions. El Scotcho
Thank you much sir. As for the High Elf box set, its only 25 bucks, and you can still Ebay it afterwords, because it still has horses to use, not that many people use those when they can use the White Lions. And, I'm also not 100% sure that they are the best base model, I've yet to see a conversion using one. I've yet to find a wolf mini online that looks big enough for a Space Wolf to ride on. On a side note, one of the guys up at the FLGS is doing a home made chapter, The Space Beavers. He got a leaked version of the Codex really early, and started converting his counts as Thunderwolf Cavalry using some plastic squirrels with green stuffed tails. These things look awesome, but he hasn't finished painting them yet. He's even gone as far as converting his counts as Grey Hunters with buck teeth, and instead of wolf tails, he has beaver paddle tails hanging off of his guys. It's a bunch of great conversion work, and I will implore him to post pics of it up on the board.
