HerrMajor
I came up with this after thinking of how cool it would be to make a company of The Fang that follows not just the Norse background on gods but one based upon the Jotun, the frost/fire giants of Nifleheim and Muspell. On top of that, I always got a kick out of the Gray Knights and so I sought to make a slightly darker and Norse variation of them. Surt is actually a large and barbaric warrior that I roleplay as in my Dark Heresy game (no he is not an Astartes yet, that's for the end game) The Jotun “As you stare into the eye of chaos do not forget we are the Jotun, proud titans who dare challenge the gods.” (He means the Chaos gods) Led by the resolute and grim wolf lord Bergelmir, they are a company comprised of the Space Wolves most experienced demon hunters. Their expertise is tempered by their pathological hatred for demons, a hatred so great that it worries Logan and hearing his men casually remark that The Jotun walk to the 13th stone only serves to compound his concern. “Remember Bergelmir, those that hunt monsters must take care that they don't become one.” When Bergelmir became wolf lord he chose to keep the iconography and company name out of respect to the fangs tradition. But, he assigned another moniker to his company, The Jotun. Giants that fight gods and guard the gates to the netherworld. Some believe he chose this name out of gross hubris and that he considers himself too great to follow The Space Wolve's traditions. When asked about it he responds “It takes a titan to kill a god.” Knowing that he has great, loyal, and fierce men under his command keeps his battle lust in check. Surt A fearsome and implacable giant who wields a great sword wreathed in flame. He became one of Bergelmir's most trusted champions. Once upon a bloody and gruesome night in the 41st millenium Bergelmir thought he would meet his end after finding himself placed against a bloodthirster in single combat. Surt managed to hastily hack his way through squad after squad of demons just in time to catch the bloodthirster's flank and come to his masters aid. Outnumbered two to one even by Astartes, the demon was still more than a match for the two Space Wolves. The champion of chaos bombarded them with ungodly blows which Bergelmir barely avoided but Surt saw a window of opportunity as the beasts flaming sword bore down upon him. Much to everyone's surprise he blocked its strike with both his axes crossed and now it was a contest of strength between him and the demon with the demon gaining greater ground. He felt his bones crack and his muscles tear but he continued to push himself till he pushed it's arm back and left it defenseless long enough for both him and Bergelmir to dart in and slay it. Without a second thought, he Bergelmir made Surt not just a member of the Wolf Guard but his very own champion and gave him the title “Guardian of Muspell.” Now Surt wields that same sword that almost bested him, relishing in the irony that something that was supposed to kill him is instead being turned against its own kind. BlackJackal
I like it, especially Surt. Personally I would say he stole a daemon's hammer. Arjac Rockfist counts as lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182009-idea-for-a-sw-company-i-made-up/#findComment-2154213 Share on other sites
HerrMajor
Yeah, I was gonna do that but I decided to make him a WGBL with a "fireblade" (counts as frostblade) because in Norse mythology Surt guards the gates of Muspell with a sword of fire. Bergelmir is based on a giant who survived a flood of blood that flowed from Ymir after he was slain by Odin. In the story of the Jotun, Bergelmir was one of a very few surviving people after his planet was invaded my demons. He later was inducted into the SW after proving himself in battle when a pack of demons attacked his rebuilt village.
