Brother Grius
I am intending on building up a small force of Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons. I wanted to get input from the rather knowledgeable 31k fans here. I know that Razorbacks, Land Raider Variants and assault cannons were not yet discovered. Can I get a quick review of the list I intend to make and let me know if anyone sees any glaring fluff divergences (or even any minor ones) before I trade/buy the models I need? Thanks for any input. HQ Librarian ..Gate of Infinity ..Might of Ancients ..Bolt Pistol Elite Sternguard Veterans [7] (counts as Ensorceled Ammunition) ..Powerfist, 2x Combi-Flamers Troops Tactical Squad [10] ..Flamer, Multi-Melta, Power Weapon ..Rhino Tactical Squad [10] ..Flamer, Multi-Melta, Power Weapon ..Rhino Heavy Support Pre-Heresy Land Raider Once again, I'm not worried about a review of the army list for competitive effeciency, just for fluff's sake. That's why I didn't post it in the army lists section. Thanks again. Edit: Also, if I want to include some troops with "Ensorceled Armour" show up, would it be too much of a stretch to use Legion of the Damned? Starblayde
Can I get a quick review of the list I intend to make and let me know if anyone sees any glaring fluff divergences (or even any minor ones) before I trade/buy the models I need? Thanks for any input. Tactical Squad [10] ..Flamer, Multi-Melta, Power Weapon Once again, I'm not worried about a review of the army list for competitive effeciency, just for fluff's sake. Only those two bolded items raise any sort of question mark for me with this list, fluff-wise, and even then you can probably get away with them because the Thousand Sons are a little bit special and would perhaps have come across such special items in their travels and searches for knowledge. I've yet to see any non-Primarch with a power weapon, as every 31k Astartes who carries a 'sword' always has a chainsword - even the captains of the Luna Wolves and Emperor's Children only have regular chainswords and it takes something very special for something as strong as, or that counts as, a power weapon. I'm honestly not sure if Multi-Meltas are post heresy weapons or not, but iirc 3rd edition CSM dex includes them. For safety's sake a Heavy Bolter or Missile Launcher would be most fluffy, but I think you can get away with it here. Combi-weapons, too, would at this stage look very much like a two weapons strapped together, rather than a sleek design of 40k combi-weapons. Phoebus
Nathaniel Garro's sword, called Libertas, was a power weapon, if I recall correctly. Similarly, Nemiel, Chaplain-Redemptor of the Dark Angels, wields a Crozius Aquilum (I think that's what the precursor to the Crozius Arcanum was called in "Fallen Angels")... which is basically a power weapon. That's what I can recall off the top of my head. Anyone else? :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182231-a-thousand-points-a-thousand-sons/#findComment-2156717 Share on other sites

Anyone else? :P Sure, anyone who's a squad sergeant rather than a Terran Company Captain and all-round hero, or a specialist like a Chaplain? It's not the existence of the things, it's the rarity which I believe would put them out of the reach of 'ordinary' Tactical Squad leaders. Damael
IIRC in Fallen Angels Nemiel was also wounded in the leg by a traitor Imperial Army officer's power sword, so they can't have been all that rare, as for the multi-melta, I'm not so sure... Brother Grius
Thanks for the pointers guys. I think I will keep the power swords. Its even easy enough for me to say they are ensorceled blades. If anyone knows for certain that Multi-Meltas weren't available, I will change that out. I did read "non-Primarch", right? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182231-a-thousand-points-a-thousand-sons/#findComment-2156952 Share on other sites
jlmb_123
I'm certain that in Tactica many years ago it was mentioned that CSM's didn't have Multi-Meltas as the technology to make them man-portable didn't exist before the Heresy. Noserenda
I see no good reason not to use Power Weapons on the Sergeants if you want to, throughout various BL stories Sergeants etc often use whatever the Author thinks is cool rather than what might be useful in the game. Take Salamander for example, neither Sergeant protagonist in that uses a Power weapon either! Also, unlike Multimeltas, Plasma Cannons etc etc there has never been any mention of Power Weapons being any rarer than they are now, so id assume they are just as available. Plus, they are certainly worth their Points in most battles ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182231-a-thousand-points-a-thousand-sons/#findComment-2157590 Share on other sites

Pacific81
One of the HH book series has an extract which described the hum of a new type of weapon (power weapons) with troops training with them in the background. Unfortunately, I can't remember which one (may have been in Tales of Heresy?!) Mutli-Meltas are definately pre-heresy (even if you argue that they were not widespread), there is at least one piece of art in Collected Visions which features it.
