Sepsis the Unclean
Hello, I am branching out from nurgle themed armies & bought a defiler for cheap on ebay so would like to include it in a chaos undivided army. As I have never used a defiler before, I was wondering which options make it most effective in battle. I don't fancy modelling it & finding out later that my weapons choices are pretty useless. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182299-defiler-which-weapon-options-make-it-most-effective/ Share on other sites
Brother Nihm
I don't fancy modelling it & finding out later that my weapons choices are pretty useless. ^_^Using magnets will alleviate that problem :( As for efficiency, I'd go with stock weaponry. Add an extra CCW if you're running a Chaoszilla/Fluffy Khorne list. my 2 Kraks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182299-defiler-which-weapon-options-make-it-most-effective/#findComment-2156791 Share on other sites
Corpse.
Well here's what people see. AV12 = str7+(or rending) can penetrate it. Making all but the most basic infantry and triple shot weapons unable. So you can shoot a battle cannon when immobile. You can move+run when the cannon dies. The sidearm guns cannot make back 150 pts without being very anti tank, making it cost a lot more for low points efficiency. All the while perhaps trying to avoid being destroyed being a large target. The safest spot is beyond 48" of the enemy, charging whatever that deep strikes/turbo boosts close for melta. The place that gets it shot most (and keeps rhinos alive) is charging for melee, where close combat keeps it alive. It also has enough attacks in the full melee version to wipe out remaining marines of a small unit before its powerfist can hurt it. So in the end it fills the role you give it. Can hide it behind an empty rhino and use its height to shoot over it. Or run it along side rhinos threatening melee, and forcing it to be dealt with/draw fire. Stock weapons, or trade them with more melee weapons. I just know if it loses its cannon during turn 3+, it is usually too far from the enemy if it never moved. So walk in if you plan on the worst happening, immobilize or a weapon destroyed results, moving in closer will keep your options open for both sides of its use. Helebron
Found that a reaper and dccw tend to be a nice pairing since you can use the reaper to pop light armour if the battlecannon gets taken down or against skimmers, while also making it pack more of a punch (5 attacks at s10 can make a mockery of many TEQs, also good at killing brass scorpions and the like) Dont like flamers unless fighting alot of gaunts(or similar) and in most cases would rather use a havok launcher against them for the longer range. The lascanon is to expensive for my likes and just makes even more firepower go towards the defiler which does some damage now that we are no longer able to be av13 HeavyBolter is better then reaper if your fighting massed infantry but has the draw back against vehicles. chillin
I think stock or trade hvy flamer for X DCCW. I've found that since it often has to "fleet" to get into CC, that the hvy flamer is rarely used (pitty <_< , b/c I love flamer template weops and a str.5 TL'ed one makes me <_< ) It is general consensus that if you take 1 defiler, take 2. So prowl e-bay some more <_< . Sepsis the Unclean
That was a nice all round explanation of defiler tactics Corpse, I like the idea of it being a distraction from my rhino's and since I am more of an offensive player I think I will use a reaper & an extra ccw to help me in melee. My havocs can sit back at 48 inches. Saying that I will definetly magnetise the ccw just in case I come up against those pesky 'nids and want to use a havoc launcher.... Cheers fellas, I am hoping to start the defiler next week so keep an eye out in the WIP if your interested....
