Returning to 40K

Hey guys after about 3 years away from the hobby I'm looking to get back into 40K. The last army I collected was Iron Warriors so I thought it would be best to start them up again.

I'm thinking of using a lot of the new Chaos termies and plenty of troops as well as a few Oblits or Preads.

Just looking for some help regarding a new army.

The battleforce seems the most logical choice to start with as I can use the Berzerkers for my main squads.

Any help would be appreciated :HQ:

Thanks guys.

Was thinking that I would have enough spare bolter arms so that the Berzerkers could make another 8 man squad.

The Possessed could come in handy for a later project.

What about Vindicators? does anyone use one and are they effective?

Or do you mean the big battle force with the land raider in? If so that is deffinatly worth it as its got IW written all over it. Vindicators are good but due to the relativly short range and the fact that defilers are kick ass most people choose defilers as a better option.

Fluff wise you can get away with using khorne bezerkers because of the storm of iron book, though you should have enough spair bolter arms for the zerkers if you mix and match the units.

Good choice with IW btw, thats what I did when I got back in last year :P

As bird sz IW's can have brzrkrs b/c of the Honsou books Also in their old IA or C:csm 3.5 (can't remember which) they could have brzrkrs.

I would buy an sprue of csm heads though and use reg heads not the bunnyears and paint them in IW's theme not red & bronze, thery are supposed to be IW's breach attackers not WE's.

I don't like vindi's, that short range + 11 side armor usually means they will get only 1 shot. Then opponent has shot at side armor, or will be in melta gun range next turn. I tried them 5 or 6 games and in only 1 game did it get more then 1 or 2 shots max, they also no good vs mech armies and there alot of those out there now. Every other chaos HS choice is better IMO.

Many categories of things for chaos. Its a splash of many multi-taskers that take one task at a time.

Vindicators fall more among the "when its needed most against termi armies or insta death required vs necrons" and so on category. Also, its great for taking attention from everything else, especially that 200+ point unit inside a rhino right next to it. 125 pts, or 35 pts and exposing your men too soon?

It has its uses. Tougher then a defiler in some ways, all shooting or moving 12" and being hit on 6's in melee when it comes to that. If all else fails and the cannon is gone, tank shock and ram their vehicles with a front AV13 tank.

If you want more "heavy supports" our elites can pack 3 terminators with a land raider bonus package option. So you can feel like the four heavy support iron warrior player you used to be. (or six)

Keep adding questions, we'll help you out.

I don't think possessed are bad, but I come from a gaming location where facing mind war and wraithlord spam is common to remove my powerfist champ asap then charge me. By RAW they "gain" a power weapon when you roll a 6. As its the only roll that adds "wargear" if you re-read their rules. An icon of khorne = 5 attacks each on the charge. (2 base, 1 for 2 CCW when rolling a 6, +1 charge, +1 from icon, all strength 5 attacks) If not that, you can at least try to get rending or furious charge for decent anti vehicle melee.

Though possessed bodies make great champion torsos and HQ torsos if you rather not field them.

the is the most absurd interpretation of possessed table I have ever seen . also there is no way of "trying" to get rending/FC . its a roll its random and most of the time it does nothing to help blow up tanks.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Was in my local GW today and had a game. Luck was smiling on me as I've never rolled so many 6's in my life :D

Yep I knew about them from Storm of Iron but I'd rather not field them at all just never ever thought they suited the fluff that much.

Pay day on Friday so I'll be getting the codex and we'll see where it goes from there.

Looked out my old stuff today so I have a Daemon Prince and 2 squads of marines as well as a Lieutenant so got the basis of the army all ready :cuss

Shall paint up a mini to try and get the feel for it again.

Lieutenants don't exist anymore, so just make him a sorcerer/lord for later.
