First test of dex

I finally managed to get a game with the new wolves last night after much anticipation. I played a Templars army @1750 anniliation and got something like 9-0. B)

I used 2 units I didn't with the old book - Terminators and Long Fangs and filled the rest as standard.

But in trying a new list I can't help feeling two things;

I still don't like Long Fangs. I don't know wether this is cause I haven't given them enough of a chance or they don't fit my playing style or what, but I used them last night and already want to take them out of my list.

Although I really want to use a Wolf Lord (WS6!) I'm leaning towards a cheaper Battle Leader so as I can fit more stuff in. This may be because I want more Terminators as the new models are cool, and up till now I've only has static metal ones!

Anywho what do you guys think;

Long Fangs in or out?

Which HQ do you like?

To be honest I just can't shoot for **** :P Then they got assaulted by a dread drop podding. Managed to hold him for 3 turns till my Claws could get there and tear it a new one!

I just wondered if many people were including them now they are a more viable option.

I think it depends on your playing style. Longfangs suit a defensive, static style of play (same as devestators) and they are very good at that, but not much else. So if you are following an aggressive forward moving approach, or even just battle line advance. The fangs will get left behind, becoming less usefull and more vulnerable. However, longfangs are very useful (I think) for city fight (split fire) and for small battles, where small squads of long fangs can be a cheap distraction for your opponent, especially dug into terrain.

What load out did you take? I've tried 4xML,1xLC which was good. and 3xML,1xLC, 1xPC which was better vs marines. The lesson i have learned is use cover!

I must say the new cover rules are good for LF, as you can shoot through area terrian now. and with my pred (TLLC/HB) not being able to move and fire these guys are more durable.

I find LC too expensive for their efficiency.

I run 2 squads with 5 ML each, and they have always made their points back so far, as they are efficient against light/heavy infantry and ligth/medium vehicles alike.

I tabled a Dark Eldar player last week, and the Long Fangs were the MVPs.

They struggle against LR and 2+ save creatures/Terminators of course, but that's what my Lone Wolves and Thunderwolves are for :P

ive started using long fangs agen, with 2HB, 2LC, and 1ML, most games we play at our local shop are on a 4'x4' table so this layout can cover most of the table, i deal with alot of armour so i usually run 3 heavy choices, and the long fangs are my replacement for loosing my leman russ

As I'm revamping my army I'm now only playing 1000-1200 pts games until I paint a more models and in the few games I've played with the new dex they have been effective. I run a cheap 4 man squad with 2xML and a HB and they for instance have fried Fabius Bile, 2 Rhinos, 1 Carnifex and resited a Lictor charge.

I'm yet to test them at bigger points scale but so far they haven't dissapointed me.

In apocalypse I field

4xLascannons

3xPlasma Cannons

4xHeavybolter + Missile Launcher

So far the Heavybolter squad has killed my friends psyker battle squad in one round of shooting - TWICE. And that was last edition too, when they didn't have the ML. Altogether they are very effective I find, and now they cost much less points.

Last regular game I played I used

2xLascannon, Multimelta, Plasmacannon, Heavybolter,

and took out 5 man assault squad, shook a vindicator( allowing my army to move forwards safely) and a land raider crusader.
