Chompers
Decided to try my hand at sculpting, having seen a lot of great concept art in the last little while. If anyones got GS tips i'd love to hear them (can it be sanded, other types of putty, etc). I know the legs is a little wonky, been struggling with the armature, will be correcting that soon hopefully. The arms will be sculpted too, just bluetacked the plastic ones on to try out a few different poses. http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy255/chompers99/IMG_1849.jpg http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy255/chompers99/IMG_1851.jpg http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy255/chompers99/IMG_1852.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182456-captain-sculpt/ Share on other sites
Dragonkin Arenis
http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy255/chompers99/IMG_1851.jpg Does he have... boobs...? nah, jk nice sculpt, although he looks very top-heavy with little weedy legs... Sort it, please, as it'll bug me for a while... otherwise, I'm lovin' it Arenis Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182456-captain-sculpt/#findComment-2158337 Share on other sites
Justin Kase
Very smooth GS work - and I'd agree on bulking out the waist/hips. I've never had a lot of success with sanding GS, I usually use Brown Stuff if I intend to sand something. jester_prince
I like the arms, they are good id use them, not everything needs to be sculpted. Id suggest you use plasticard for the legs, atleast to base the GS work on. I like him. StratoKhan
Something you might consider is that the waist and hips are extremely narrow. Widening them would make the sculpt look less fragile and unbalanced. But the GS is smooth so you're doing something right! Just work on those proportions. onipunk
The legs are attached to the groin far too low down. I like the positioning of the plasma pistol, and would conisder keeping that, but for the other arm, a powersword may be better. Instead of the dynamically-posed arms that are currently available, a limp arm mayb be cooler, with the sword loosely hanging down. Alpha PTP
Something you might consider is that the waist and hips are extremely narrow. Widening them would make the sculpt look less fragile and unbalanced. But the GS is smooth so you're doing something right! Just work on those proportions. Couldn't have put it better myself. I use a very minimal grain nail file on my green stuff. On top of that, I learned that licking your sculpting tools or using vegetable oil works wonders when working with GS. Licking is for the short term smoothing, vegetable oil is for the long term. IE: Something doesn't look right so you keep fidgeting with it. Chompers
hey thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated. took the knife to his wonky leg and bulked up the runway model waist a bit, but the man-boobs are staying. Unfortunately I've been a little lax in watching the proportions, and somewhere along the line he ballooned up to about two heads taller than a normal marine. Not too happy with how static the cloth looks, will hopefully be replacing it with something more dynamic and flowing. http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy255/chompers99/IMG_1853.jpg http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy255/chompers99/IMG_1854.jpg http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy255/chompers99/IMG_1855.jpg Also, does anyone know if there's a way to get GS to cure quickly? getting quite tired of mashing the details with my fat fingers, and i haven't got the patience to put it down for a few hours. ShinyRhino
I have been told the way to get GS to cure faster is to put it in a coffee can, and point a hot lightbulb into the can. You have to be careful not to put the model too close to the bulb or it'll singe and warp. Also plastic parts might soften or melt too close to a hot bulb. As for the sculpting, looks pretty good. The loincloth doeslook a bit static, but I think that's because it looks like it was sulpted on a flat suface and then transferred to the model, yes? His "breasts" got even larger. What's the deal with that? It might be the photo, but his legs also look like they're of different lengths. Are they? Fire Lord Captain
looks nice so far but as with most people who have commented, Whats with the boobs? I think they need to be filed flat and maybe not be positioned so far apart, the gap in the middle of them is too wide. But good work! Chompers
Alright, i've scrapped the form-fitting body armor, was initially trying for a sculpted armor look but obviously with limited success. Replaced the static cloth with one with a bit of flow to it, much better i'm thinking, and started roughing out the powerfist. thanks for the tip about the light + can shineyrhino, will be giving that a try very soon http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy255/chompers99/IMG_1858.jpg http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy255/chompers99/IMG_1859.jpg http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy255/chompers99/IMG_1860.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182456-captain-sculpt/#findComment-2159744 Share on other sites
-Brother Sargent Tiberius-
nice, great sculpting. Though, your captain looks like he has alittle captain in him... Justin Kase
Though, your captain looks like he has alittle captain in him... Now, that is just too funny :) As to the mini, he is looking much better with the bulk up - a lot less anime ;) That powerfist is looking pretty damn good too.
