Okay we were playing the first mission in the plantstrike book with the marines and wolves defending and chaos and orks trying to wrest the objectives from us. The map was a 8 by 4 board. We set it up with a large base in the middle of the map about 3 by 3 feet wide with two bastions on the inside and one of the corners and walls replaced by ruins and rubble. A crashed thunderhawk gunship dominated on other side of the board, giving lost of rough terrain and cover. The other side had one more bastion and a long river of water stretching across the board.

Since their were three objectives we each got three points to spend on stratagems. The defenders choose to take escape hatch, power generator, and minefield. The attackers took crash and burn and power of the waaaagh.

The defenders choose to use the side with the crashed gunship as their DZ because of the cover and the closer two objectives.

Defenders place all three of our dreadnaughts, the vindicator, the scouts in the ruins, both landraiders with their terminators inside, magnus inside a bunker, my longfangs inside a building, a devastator squad inside a bunker, the tac marines in the ruins, and the techpriest in the ruins.

The attackers then get to call down their fire storm and ......... kill a whole scout. One scout. Just incase you didn't get that one scout.

Well they start their first turn and pop crash and burn instantly. The pieces of spaceship crash in and stun the vindicator, kill the whirlwind, and create and bunch of cover for them to use.

There is the set up. We will begin the first turn later.

First Turn Orks and Chaos

Well of course orks and chaos come in with everything but the noise marines, normal marines, and landraider and bezerkers coming in for chaos and only about half of the ork army coming in, but that does include all of the big things coming onto the board.

The orks surprisingly choose to bring all of their guys onto the DZ. The chaos player also played their defiler and obliterators on the DZ. The bikes shot forward right away, much to my enjoyment, coming only a few inches of the base walls but also coming close to my landraider with all of my wolf guard inside of it. The trukk also shoots forward and jumps over all of the rough terrain, not slowing down in the slightest, coming right behind the bikes.

But the most fun of the day. The terminators try to deepstrike inside of the bases but scatted right on top of one of the dreadnaughts and then get lost in the warp. A 500 point unit wiped off the board in the blink of an eye, making the chaos player the guy with the most kills at the moment. The raptors and deamon prince also go for the base (but farther back) and scatter backwards towards the far bastion on the water covered side of the table.

Shooting phase pretty much does nothing, one marine from the tac squad dying to some fire from the defiler but nothing else happening. Even the running phase doesn't do much, with just the front guys only moving an inch and stopping the guys behind from doing much moving either. The orks and chaos end their turn with a deamon prince and raptor charge on the long fangs bastion and doing absolutely nothing except stunning the bastion.

First Turn Wolves and Marines

We rolls to see what comes in and with Tigarius's rerolls on all of the come in rolls everything comes in. Unfortunately with the ork hoards numbers anything on the ork DZ coming in not being to actually be able to fit and going back into reserves. However the melta gun grey hunters, lone wolf, and sky claws with wolf priest come in on the far side of the board edge away from all of the fighting. All of the marines are either on the side or the enemies deployment zone though.

The land raiders both move forward and mine dumps its wolf guard right beside the bikers. My bikes come onto the battle field and line up with the Deffdreads there. My other sky claw squad comes in from the other side and lines up with the obliterators and orks there and my allies assault squad come in and line up alongside my bikes but against an ork squad.

Magnus uses the escape hatch to jump out of their bunker and get right beside the deamon prince and raptors.

Shooting happens and orks fall to plenty of fire but not a single one of the chaos guys dies. One of the bikers dies to the guns, and both deffdreads get immobilized to gun fire.

Magnus charges the deamon princes and not much happens. The deamon prince takes two wounds but nothing from magnus's group even gets hurt and none of the raptors die either. They fail their leadership and run away from Magnus towards their dropzone.

My Wolf Guard charge the nob bikers, and kill four of them as well as wounding the warboss, only loosing two of their numbers in the process. and the warboss runs. The bieks charge a deffdread, ripping off one of its dreadnought close combat weapons. The sky claws charge the obliterators and orks, killing off five orks and one of the obliterators. while loosing two of the skyclaws.

The assault marines charge and kill off five hard boys while loosing a guy of their own. Nothing runs but the fearless rules make several more orks die to basing their own heads in.

The first turn ends with the marines and wolves holding two objectives and the chaos and orks contesting (so holding with plantstrike rules) one objective.
