I used this the other night and found a good balance vs chaos who had the nurgle add on and they fought well.

 

2 x GH’s 10 man packs

 

10 Skyclaws WGBL w/combi flamer/jump pack.

 

1 Rune Priest w/storm bolter/jump pack (did bril using tempests wrath/JoWW), am I correct that you can only use 1 psychic attack per model? And where it say 2 psychic attacks per player turn dose this include when it is his turn?

 

1 lone wolf w/wolf claws(brilliant attack against the chaos lord)

 

5 GW 1 attached to the long fangs with a cyclone launcher, the other 4 attached to grimnar 1 being Arjac.

 

LF 2xplasma 2xML 1xHB and the sergeant w/ attached WG with cyclone launcher...

 

By round 4 he had lost his Chaos lord and his nurgle troops(w/jump packs) both his rhinos destroyed,

He wiped out my LF’s with a flanking squad all with plasma guns, but my rear GH attacked in my turn and all but wiped out this squad.

 

My rune priest trapped his jump troops in dangerous/difficult terrain and nullified all his sourcers psychic attacks.

 

All in all I lost 7 Skyclaws and the LF’s.

 

He was horrified with the Skyclaws/WGBL when assaulting with grimnars legendary leader bonus which gave a total of 54 attacks... nice. He was concerned so much with grimnar and his WG he missed the SC’s.

 

So I find this a good combo and enjoyed this game greatly....

 

Nice when you see those chaos dogs take a good thrashing...

For your Rune Priest question, on page 37 of the codex, at the top, in the first paragraph it says " a Rune Priest has two psychic powers from the list below, chosen when the army is picked. He can only use one power each player turn, unless he has been upgraded to a Master if the Runes, in which case he can use up to two powers" So each player turn to my mind means controlling player turn, but this seems another one of those cases where Gdub should have written the rules in more specific language, but didn't because they assume all minis-gamers are easy going people who will always give you the benefit of the doubt.

 

So you got him to run screaming from Logan, right into a pack of Skyclaws? That there deserves another ale. Did your Long Fangs at least take out a tank or 2?

And what was the composition of the chaos force?

my SC's with the WGBL jumped to a position where they would be able to shot and assualt next round (2) and my rune priest w.master of the runes had pinned chaos assualt troopers with tempest and used JoWW and took out 4 nurgle assualt troops, he had something like 15-20 models with jump packs w/ a chaos lord and champion.

 

the LF's opened up on these troops in the first round did not do so good but in the second took out quite a few, they did not have time to engage the rhino's before they were destoryed.

 

by round 2 my LW was able to assualt with the SC's attacking aswell, grimnar and his WG shot and assualted in round 3.

 

the SC's lost here and failed a moral test but the LW held his ground so they were able to regroup without being persued 4" back.

 

Rd 4 the LW was killed but Grimnar and his WG shot and assualted finishing off the chaos lord/champion.

 

my GH 1st pack had engaged a squad of chaos marines with a sourcerer killing 3 with the flammer alone and another 2 shotting, the assualt phased went badly for them as another squad reinforced them and the sourcerer done his stuff.

 

Grimnar broke away and engaged a rhino while the WG engaged the other rhino with another squad in, both were destoryed in this round so then my opponent surrendered as he had lost to mant kill points.

 

an intreasting game for me and a good learning curve...
