WIP ~ Fire Lords

Recommended Posts

Some of you may remember I posted this guy up a while ago.

After getting told that he reminded people of Ronald McDonald I decided to go with a darker theme.

Which I much prefer and was easier to paint! The eye lenses still need painting. (Just waiting on my green paint to arrive)

This is my Captain featuring the right knee of justice and the left knee of repentance! Again the lenses still need to be completed, plus commander backpack with halo.

and a group shot..

Any comments or tips? :)

Yeah I remember this post, I like the gold better then the yellow by far! Can you pleeeeeeeeeeease paint the seargent with a clown face!!! I would love you for all eternity. GS a red afro too ;)

Or you could just repaint him to the rest of your scheme and not waste a mini.

I like the captain, but not the sergeant or tactical marine so much. The yellow on the tactical marine just seems to scream out to much, in my opinion. But hey, its your army and if you like it then so be it ;) Maybe you could get McDs to sponsor you if you used the golden arches as your chapter icon? :)

Well I'm planning on having the tactical squad like the guy pictured, but i plan to do the dev squads with blue helms, the assault squads with black helms and veterans with white helms. The sergeants helms will have a red stripe down whatever coloured helm. Hopefully then I won't have to be sponsored by Maccy D's! ;) The Captain is the only guy being painted like that. Oh and I plan on painting the termies totaly different too, kinda like how the Deathwing(?) differ from the Dark Angels.

  • 3 months later...

Well after reading the book of the dead I resurrect this thread!!!!

After a long hiatus I am back to painting...

After leaving my Fire Lords for a while I came back to them and painted all their eye lenses. OMG did the camera bring out the mold lines on this guy!!

And I have decided to do my terminators in a different style. The 1st Company will be known as the Brotherhood of Steel, and it will be painted in a metallic green.

After the termies will be these guys:

Heres what I have so far:

Great work! It's nice to see you're back in action. I really like the painted eyes, and the thought and colour scheme behind the 'metallic' Terminators: the Brotherhood of Steel is a very catchy and cool name ;)

Cheers Capt. Lysander ;) Its good to be back painting. Its looking through these boards that have given me a renewed interest to paint. I got the idea for the Brotherhood of Steel from the PC game series Fallout, where the BoS had power armour which had a green hue to it. It wall also give some diversity to my army ;)

You should try a wash over the entire tactical model. A nice light brown would shade the skin, the yellow AND the red very nicely... just avoid the eyes on the helmets as you have done a fantastic job on them and I fear a brown wash in the eyes would ruin your efforts.

As for the shade... sadly I mixed my own light brown and have no written recipe. Watered down some devlan mud perhaps?

Cheers for the tip. It wouldn't dry glossy though would it? As I tried doing that with another model with the old Flesh Wash and it dried glossy.

It will, but that's what Dull Cote is for.

My main tips -

1) remove mould lines

2) shade your red and yellow with a carefully applied wash and black line the deepest recesses for more contrast

3) base your models with a dark scheme (urban would be ideal) to offset the brightness of the miniatures themselves

Well I have some devlan mud wash and a matt finish varnish ordered.

What colour helmets should my Sergeants have? I was thinking of going with the codex and have them red, but they wouldn't stand out as much as I want. WHat do you guys think? Maybe yellow with a red stripe?

Before you go matt varnishing stuff, Devlan Mud will not dry glossy!

None of the GW washes dry shiny, they all have a matt finish. The old inks did and the older washes did, but the new ones have a different precipitate added to their mix, they all dry a lovely matt finish!

They're also good to wash OVER glossy surfaces, they take away the horrible glossy finish.

Loving the colour scheme, though with the Terminators scheme I'd probably like them more if they were a seperate chapter.

Awesome idea of having them different to the marines, but dont forget the Deathwing use schemes from the Dark Angels themselves, so they have some uniformity.

Other than than theyre great man! Love the scouts too!

Ah cheers for the info. That is just a base coat for the termies. Their right shoulder pad will be red, and there will be hints of yellow around them so they won't look totally out of place next to the PA fire lords
