Vindicators/Predators

Hey guys

I play White Scars, and I've been wanting to either get some vindicators in or some predators, but I didn't know which ones to choose.

In my 1500 point list, I have so far:

Captain on Bike

Uber Command Squad on Bikes

2 8-man (7 plus AB) Bike squads

I was then going to add in either 3 Vindicators, or 3 Predators (I thought it may be a fun list that I would be willing to play if I had 3 of which ever I go with). I was leaning more towards the Vindicator, because it seems like they can be excellent on really anything, as long as you have a good scatter die roll, but the 24" range was the only downfall, but I think it may be fine since I have a lot of mobility.

If I were to choose the Predators, I would probably go with the Autocannon/Heavy Bolter version. I just wanted to ask you guys what you thought was a better choice, because I couldn't exactly decide.

Also, if I may ask, I was having trouble whether to give my captain on a bike either a relic blade and a storm shield, or a pair of lightning claws with a storm shield on the bike (this may not be legal, but where I play the people allow it). I was thinking going with the pair of lightning claws, because even though he won't be able to take out tough things, he's attached to a command squad that includes 4 meltaguns as well as a powerfist, and I do get an extra attack with the lightning claws, but I wanted your guys' opinion again.

Thanks for the advice!

The Dakka Pred mostly duplicates something you already have lots of on bikes - anti-infantry firepower. I assume you're running MMABs with this list? I'd use Vindcators personally - they are anti-everything.

As for the Captain, give him a Relic Blade.

EDIT: Why not just use Attack Bike Squadrons if you need more Anti-Infantry firepower?

Okay, thanks for the reply. I have one squad that has two meltaguns, and a MM AB, the other with two flamers, and a HB AB, both sergeants with PF's.

I could take AB squads, but I don't know, I guess I just feel like having some tanks in my list =P But I think I'll go with vindicators. Thanks though =)

That's not entirely true. The one thing I find they are fairly useless against are Monstrous Creatures. You can only cause 1 wound on them at most in one shooting phase (mind you there would probably be better targets than MCs to use a vindicator against) and you can't instant kill any MC currently. I suppose it might be a good thing to use on a Tyrant and his guard, but aside from that not that great against MCs.

I personally would use a mix, 2 of 1, 1 of the other, or 1 of each (i.e. LC/HB predator, AC/LC predator & Vindicator or Annihilator, Destructor & Vindicator). Keeps your force flexible and able to handle anything and if you lose one, the others can still pick up the slack without too much trouble.

I agree with a 2:1 approach.

2 Vindicators is usually enough to make sure 1 shell hits whatever you're aiming at and you usually only need 1 Demolisher shell.

This is a very good point, instead you should look at the Combi-Predator (Autocannon/Lascannons) as its great against other transports like Rhinos or Devilfish and its also fairly useful against MCs, the one place that Melta weapons and Vindicator's suffer against.

When I built my Bike Captain, I put a Relic Blade on one hand, and a claw on the other, and made it clear to each opponent whether I was using just the RB that game, or the twin claws.

Relic Blade came out much better: one extra attack when you already have 3 (or 4) wasn't as effective as upgrading those 3(4) attacks.

IMHO!
