HsojVvad
Hello all there. I am starting up a DA army, Tyranids for me and my son, and Orks for my son and wife. (just the 3 of us, my son loves all models :) ) My question is, even though I am not going to start a SW army, (that could change, never know what I will do in the future) I like to get codicies to read for fluff and what not. When I got the Ork codex and CSM codex, ( I didn't play them) I enjoyed the Ork codex, but thought I wasted my money on the CSM codex, since I hardly picked it up. So I never bothered with Deamon, SM, and IG when they released their respective codex. I flipped through the SW codex, and it does look nice. Is there lot's of fluff in there? Even though I will not start them up, (but who knows, I didn't plan on starting Orks, but have a battle force set from then now, so who knows) should I get it? Will it be a fun read? As I said before, I enjoyed reading the Ork codex but not the CSM codex. Also how are the new SW mini's? I don't know much about SW lore or Fluff. I was thinking of getting a box, just to make up for fun, but I don't like the grey colour, just looks to blah for me. Can I paint them any colour, and can they still be called SW, or are SW only in Grey? I never seen or herd of any sub chapters of SW. I just don't want to waste my money again. I was told by a GW person that Chaos codex was a good read. I found it wrong, so I thought I would do my homework this time. So what do you guys think. As a non SW player, would I enjoy the codex, for a fluff reading, and just reading in general? Hfran Morkai
There is a lot of good fluff in there. They've remembered that the wolves are a fairly humourous imperial army and have used that in the dex. Definitely a good read, some of the detailed battles though short are incredibly evocative. There are no longer any successor chapters for the SW, one the Wolf Brothers suffered a catastrophe and no more successor wolves but you can simply claim them another chapter similar to the wolves and paint them any colour you want. In the grim darkness of thr far future, there is only counts as Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182664-should-i-get-the-sw-codex/#findComment-2160782 Share on other sites

Lord Ragnarok
You may want to try and find the 2nd Edition Codex as it has a little bit more fluff than the one just released. If you find you like the SW fluff in the codices be sure to pick up the Ragnar series of novels. Terrahawk
Fluff-wise I think it's a very solid Codex and gives a nice look to the Chapter. I like the fact that even the basic vehicles used by the SM Chapters have SW specific fluff (as opposed to the DA Codex which uses standard text). Whirlwinds that sniff out the enemy, anyone? ;) I think the new Codex succeeds in striking a balance between the more serious aspects of our chapter and the banterous side we have. So yeah, I think you'll like it. Finally, if you get the Codex be sure to let us know what you think! greese_m0nkey
I buy each new codex for two reasons, one I like to read allot, second it gives you info on what your enemy can do. It is nice when you know more about some ones army than they do. If you are short on funds your better of buying more models for your existing armies. I keep buying more models, and they collect dust since I am a very very slow modeller. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182664-should-i-get-the-sw-codex/#findComment-2161652 Share on other sites
Marshal Wilhelm
I love C:SW. ;) Perhaps the most fun Codex ever! Art is great, stories are great, you feel that a single Blood Claw will take out a Blood Thirster in cc :D IMO I think SW have the best Marine army list as much as that galls my Templar pride. If you don't like grey or blue/grey, wolf-wise you could always do them black or white (I wouldn't paint them brown though :) ). There is a Red Wolves chapter (check lexicanum) if you like to conform and red is something you like. Really any colour though - it is your choice. Wolf Lords are pretty uninhibited....
