Iron Warriors 9th Grand Company

Hi there!

I got so much inspiration and input for Iron Warriors in the last time, i decided to take a break from my Dark Angels and continue my Iron Warrior Warband around my Warsmith Lord Chaedros.

But at first, a little history lesson:

The history of my Iron Warriors started with the Index Astartes Article from the german White Dwarf. Since then my army was growing and growing and by the time Abaddon unleashed his 13th Crusade Lord Chaedros (an Iron Warriors sorcerer in the service of the mighty leader of the 9th Grand Company) leads an army into the fighting on Cadia, especially Scarus Sector. There he collects many victories as well as artifacts and more to bolster his power.

With an allied Word Bearers warband, he fights against Imperial Guard and the 5th Company from the Salamander Chapter. In the end Lord Chaedros developed into a mighty leader and with a present from his allies (a Daemon Weapon from the Word Bearers) he also grew into an fearsome combatant.

Maybe too mighty, because some Iron Warriors had a critical eye on this upstart sorcerer and in the time of his return to Medrengard, Lord Chaedros fleet was caught by an ambush and nearly complete destroyed. Lord Chaedros was badly wounded, his sorcerous abilities to call on the powers of the warp utterly destroyed. Much of his body needs augmentations and bionics and as his fleet retreated with the rest of his warband, he swore an oath to come back and give bloody venceance to his betrayers.

But first he needs to restore his warband...

At first, meet Warsmith Lord Chaedros (his 3rd incarnation)

His loyal bodyguards:

Forrix, his second in command (not the real Forrix, this is an hommage to my favorite Storm of Iron character)

And some WIP Terminators:

This is the first wave of pictures and as time goes by, i try to make better pictures of the rest, my abilities with my camera sucks. Still learning...

As well as my english, don´t be too harsh if there are too many mistakes.

Next time, CSM Squads, some vehicles and hopefully a better camera..

To be continued...

I like! My only crit is the armor looks a bit dark. Is it the light you're taking the photos in? If not, I might suggest a highlight (depending on your basecoat, looks like boltgun metal) of 50/50 boltgun/mithril silver applied to the corners of very the edges on the models. Might make them pop a bit more, as the surfaces in the pictures look a bit flat at the moment. Other than that, I like em B)

Cheers,

-Kal

what head did you use for that one? and i love the whole squad the chaos warrior shield on the icon really makes it look useful (which is why i dont use banners and stuff, they look in the way)

the warsmiths hammer is wonderful, i have trouble think how many loyalist emperor dogs have fallen to that :P

Thanks for all the comments.

what head did you use for that one?

The head is either from the chaosterminator-sprue or from the chaoslord-sprue. Original the head comes with an "horus-eye" upon the mask, I simply removed it.

So after little experiments with contrast and colors (and after my camera broke down a moment) new pictures:

Lord Chaedros personal transport:

And to bring some more color into the thread: One of his momentary allies, also with his personal transport:

Dark Apostle Khorobar

(For those of you who know my alter ego Interrogator-Chaplain Barakiel, thats not his helmet. )

His Rhino "The unholy Chorus"

Enjoy!

Some more Iron Warriors.

CSM Squad I - thats my "Forlon Hope" squad. They get the impossible tasks, getting into the bloodiest fights and have therefore the highest rate of casaulties but also most kills and honor.

In the moment i´ve been working on replacements for 1st Squad to show there veteran status amongst the standard CSM-Squads.

Now some WIP´s from CSM Squad II

And the Champion from CSM Squad III

And my first Iron Warrior. Often repainted but my first IW after the Index Astartes Article from the beginning. Blast from the past^^

So much for now. More coming soon

Cheers

This is going to be a good looking army :) You've some nice, subtle conversions in the Terminators, that have some great poses; I like what you've done with that PH Land Raider; I think the Dark Apostle is my favourite piece, fab conversion, and I like his Rhino. ;)
Where are you getting the small bowls of fire?

On the WB-Rhino the two bowls in front are from the Vampire Counts Black Coach and the one on top is from Inquisitor Lord Karamazovs Throne of Judgement. In the past it was possible to order them seperate but now when i need firebowls i use the Warhammer Fantasy Flagellant Warband Sprue. There are some heads with firebowls on top as well as some torches. (beside, the flagellants are great to converted for my Traitor Imperial Army i use in Apocalypse with my Iron Warriors)

  • 3 weeks later...

Hail Brothers, at last something new.

Time has come to improve my Warsmith a little bit, so here is his 4th Incarnation:

Warsmith Chaedros very WIP

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff9/Lord_Zymran/IMG_2334.jpg

The Hammer needs improvement, he is not exactly chaotic enough for me. The whole pose isn´t finished either, i have fixed it with green stuff, but i think i will try tiny minor changes...

Criticism and comments welcome!

And having seen these Marines alot in the forum, i want to try it myself (i´m not really satisfied with the whole boots):

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff9/Lord_Zymran/IMG_2329.jpg

Maybe as replacement for the models from 1st Squad "Forlon Hope"...

What to you think?

those two look great. I find that i make the best minis after my force is initially completed. In this case you already have a warsmath for play, so you can spend extra time on your 4th iteration.

I like the marine with chaos warrior legs. I think they could use a little more green stuff and maybe trimming down the boot cuff to make some armor.

overall this army is great, keep up the hard work.

+++Update+++

Added customized shoulderpads and more details.

And both in comparsion:

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff9/Lord_Zymran/IMG_2350.jpg

Thankfully he looks more massive than his predecessor right now. :D

The new warsmith is cool in theory, but that is over-complicated. It is getting to the point where he looks like a bunch of bits thrown together. The farther away you are from the model, the more hectic it looks.

I would honestly scrap half of the bits you have given him. On top of that, I would make the base look more simple. Simplicity is key in miniature painting since you're usually pretty far away from it.

I like the new warsmith a lot; it's immediately obvious what he represents. I think the whole forces looks great, keep up the good work.

How did you make the impurity seals? I've never seen them look so much like torn fiber - is it paper mache?

The new Warsmith looks very cool and more like a Warsmith than his previous incarnation. The use of the Techmarine limbs and such is key to Iron Warriors Warsmiths I think. The only thing I'd like to see more of on him is bionics. A whole arm or leg formed of metal components and clawed talons for fingers or toes would be cool but not really needed I think. I also like the use of the razorwire on the base. Looks pretty snazzy.
