No, not necessarily. The standard non-upgraded Wolf Guard in Power Armour (with Bolt Pistol and CCW), will have 4 attacks on the charge or counter-attack, and is a steal at just 18 points per model. In addition to being fairly effective in an assault, he is still cheap enough to make an okay meat-shield, for other, more expensive models. Token
Yes, they are very cheap. Kinda takes away the weakness with long fangs too, an extra wound for 18p, instead of the normal 15p that other marines have. How do you equip your wolf guards? Kinda takes away the weakness with long fangs too, an extra wound for 18p, instead of the normal 15p that other marines have. How do you equip your wolf guards? It depends on what they are doing, and where they are going. For the Wolf Guard that are going to be doled out as pack leaders, I pretty much give them all a Power Fist. Right now my Wolf Scout and Blood Claws WGPL's have a Plasma Pistol and Power Fist, and are in Power Armour. The WGPL's for my Grey Hunter Packs all have a Storm Bolter and Power Fist, and are in Terminator Armour. The Swift Claw's pack leader has a Frost Blade and Melta Bombs (I already had a Power Fist in the unit, so didn't need one on the WGPL, too). If I were to assign one to the Long Fangs, I would either go with the CML in Terminator Armour to add another effective Heavy Weapon for the unit, or go with a slick 18 point WGPL (no upgrades) to hopefully absorb the first wound, thus protecting the squad leader to maintain the Split Fire ability. For Wolf Guard that aren't splitting off to lead other packs, I'm giving them Terminator Armour and a mixture of weapons. rodgers37
Whats the piont in having un-upgraded Wolf Guard? there 3 pionts more than grey hunters for an extra attack, and there not scoring, unless taking Logan, they main reason i see to taking Wolf Guard, is to give them special weapons..... Vlk
I'm going to use a Drop Pod WG squad with mixed armour and mixed armaments. 1 Terminator with an AC + Chain Fist 1 Terminator with a SB and a WC 1 Terminator with a SB and a PF 4 PA Wolf Guards with combi weapons (preferably 2 combi-meltas, a combi-plasma and a combi-flamer for an all-comers list) That's 251 pts, 35 pts. for the DP and I believe they'll pay for themselves. I decided not to give them any storm shields as those PA Wolf Guards will be used as a meatshield. But maybe I'll add just one (but OUCH, the horrific price increase...) and I might even squeeze another AC or a CML in the squad as there will be 3 more Wolf Guards assigned to other squads as pack leaders. Leadership 9 and those three attacks all the time makes them a nasty counter attack unit, what you then do is put a couple of powerfists in said unit and maybe a power weapon and you have a nasty unit with several guys who can take the wounds that allow no saves and so on. Clone
Is it worth taking 9 GH in a Pod with a WG for tank hunting? With 10 GH I'd get two Meltaguns, whereas I could have a meltagun, a combi melta and an extra Power Fist with the WG.
