greatcrusade08
Hi guys, title says it all. The only real way to use Abby is with a raider as hes too valauble to risk with DSing. Ive also heard that when accompanied by termies he oftne runs off the board as they arent fearless. which units would you guys use, what about zerkers? would they lose thier furious charge? Thanks in advance Gc08 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182884-what-are-the-best-squads-for-abaddon-to-accompany/ Share on other sites
Dràyhèn
"Often runs overboard" -thingy is just a wild urban legend. In truth, you can get them outrunned only by playing them stupidly. Like for example, getting them hit by Nob-bikers or other THAT nasty stuff. Even then, I guess Abby is going to drag a couple down before they even stand a chance to swing. Berzerkers are good and killy, but termies look more imposing and fluffier with Abby. Magnus Thane
I'd say, put him in a Landraider with some BL Termies. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182884-what-are-the-best-squads-for-abaddon-to-accompany/#findComment-2163354 Share on other sites
greatcrusade08
Ok termies are the fluffiest option after all , since you can only get 4 in a LR with abby how would you arm them i was thinking a heavy flamer and a couple of combi-weapons thanks again for your advice. Magnus Thane
A lot of the Termies I use tend to be very barebone. Combis + powerweapons + mark of Khorn (or Glory) As for in combination with Abby. Probably the same. They're mostly there for the extra attacks and some 'wound absorption'. IronWinds
Bezerkers are good because they are fearless. Personal favorite are Termies with the Icon of Glory. Makes them a lot less likely to run away. Drudge Dreadnought
Berserkers do it better than terminators, and provide a lot more bodies. They do not lose their furious charge. Makes them a lot less likely to run away. I agree with this, Honestly LD10 with reroll is damn near fearless. I ran the numbers on it and its atleast 99% of the time passing. Berserkers are good but I wonder if you really need more killing power with Abaddon. What about Plague Marines instead? The whole squad gets defense grenades plus they work better as a pure bodyguard unit by absorbing more damage. Give them a Power Fist Champion and dual Flamers for anti-horde purposes and you'll be set for anything. EDIT: That being said, I think I'd go with 4 cheap Terminators. Probably just add in IoCG and a Heavy Flamer. The whole squad would only cost you 135 points. chillin
For fluffyness it would be all termi champs (with Ld.10 and IoCG they would be VERY unlikely to run off board, don't know who said that) For effectiveness it would have to be brzrkrs. Corpse.
Hero+Unit+Raider Combo's I've gone with. Just speaking from experience here since all the good suggestions were mentioned. Abbadon+ 8 Possessed+IoK: Not that good, but survivable with 8 5++ saves to munch past. Got power weapons one time and it worked very well but you know how rolls go. 8 Berzerkers+Pfist Champ: Did well, good balance between munch and power crunch. Good high initiative out of a land raider as always. 8 Plague Marines+Fist+2 meltas: Pretty much an all rounded unit thats survivable in a different way then the possessed. Scoring and all that makes it a good unit to split away from when abbadon runs it alone. 7 Sons+1 Socrerer, tried several powers: Very very good! Somehow stacking sons with a anti tank capable character with lots of attacks and 4++ natural in the unit creates a good shoot+charge unit out of a raider. Being able to fire AP3 bolters twice before charging (and maybe a breath of chaos) is like having tons of power weapons against the right target using initiative higher then the enemy, then you charge. Works well when you get real close before disembarking, otherwise its sort of pointless if you kill everything at short range or there is so few models to shoot there is no charging. (Also great with Khârn, he's a tank muncher too) Varying terminator squads, 3 and 4 size, sometimes I have a 2nd HQ hang out in the same raider with abbadon. So far heavy flamer, 2-3 combi-meltas are the best choice along with 1 chainfist and 2-3 claws that are weilded by champions for +1 attack. 8 Havocs, same idea as the basic marines with IoT, but with 3 meltaguns, flamer and combi-flamer on the powerfist champ. It did very good, but loses out a bit to the terminator and thousand sons, either scoring or the versatility, better ++ save etc. By just a meager cost benefit. I haven't tried chosen, obvious reasons. Basic marines for loss of 2 special weapons. No noise marine tries yet, cant find a reason above the other units aside from the doom siren. I did well with all of the units tried, but only because of the setting and half-decent match ups. Not going against 30 banshee's charging them at once or anything like that yet like some local players fancy doing. Redbaron997
4 Terminators - Icon of Chaos Glory (You dont want them running away with you 275 point model) - Heavy Flamer (Its to cheap not to) - Chainfist (Just in case abby is dead, you still want to be able to take down a big thing) - Combis if you want them In a Land Raider with Possession If you go big, GO BIG or GO HOME! Brother Nihm
For effectiveness it would have to be brzrkrs. And for fluff as well, remember the story about Abaddon leading a charge of 'zerkers and then cutting down an adamantium gate?
