deathjester25
Im looking to add a dread in a drop pod to my army. Not sure what the best choice would be. So far my list looks like this tac squad rhino tac squad rhino sternguard 2xPC vindi vindi i wanted something i can drop close turn 1 to take pressure of my vindis. I dont have much anti tank or MC in my list yet either. What would my best load out be? Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182913-dread-choice/ Share on other sites
Top Secret
If you can afford it, dropping an Ironclad turn one is a huge distraction. Except, don't shoot anything with it. Pop smoke and put its back towards the Drop Pod. Watch your opponent hastily throw everything he's got at a concealed AV 13 vehicle trying to get it away. lolz Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182913-dread-choice/#findComment-2163737 Share on other sites
Marshal Wilhelm
As BT it is MM only for me. HOWEVER, my brother let me use an IC versus his Orks a few times and I loved it :) . I use footsloggers and still enjoyed RUNNING him across the table into action, as shepherd for my Crusaders. Against him I have decided to go back to MM so that I get practise for people who won't indulge me. I prefer the IC and it is for this reason. When the Dread loses a weapon your opponent chooses which. If you want the gun he'll pick that and if you want the DCCW he'll pick that. Your DP Dread will be in the thick of it so keeping an arm no matter what will be a good thing. Otherwise you could be left with normal s6 attacks - boo! I agree with Top Secret. Smoke can be the best form of attack. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182913-dread-choice/#findComment-2163771 Share on other sites

Giga
If you're droppoding it, then I'd say an Ironclad with heavy flamer instead of storm bolter should do the job. OIF Knight
Your Immortal God-Emperor blessed us with the Ironclad. Use it with a Drop Pod as His will intended...You shan't be disappointed :P Knight Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182913-dread-choice/#findComment-2164146 Share on other sites
JamesI
Furioso! Oh, I mean Ironclad. Armor 13 for a dread is a nice improvement. And it can still pop tanks when it lands, or do the smoke launcher try to kill me idea suggested above. minigun762
The MM/DCCW normal Dread is just a poor man's Ironclad. If you have the points, its worth it to upgrade. As a Chaos player, here is how I see the breakdown for Dreadnoughts. Normal Dreads = turn them into Gundreads with 2 ranged weapons IronClad Dreads = Drop Pod, Heavy Flamer and have fun Ven. Dreads = MM or Assault Cannon/DCCW to get the most benefit out of BS5/WS5 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182913-dread-choice/#findComment-2164291 Share on other sites
deathjester25
Looks like an ironclad it is then. Any upgrades worth it other then the heavy flamer? Marshal Wilhelm
IMO The HF is it. :D HKs are expensive for 1 shot - use those 10 pts for a Tac squad and that is an LC that can fire all game v 1 Krak missile. ;) Assault Launchers - I don't think you'll come across a squad all with power fist & in cover all that often, do you? Chainfist when playing PS for the Bastions but otherwise no. Caution might say yes buy everything, you might need it. I believe the chances of those situations coming up regularly are improbable. Save the points. Your IC probably will get hammered because he is such an obnoxious unit in the guts of the enemies home. So why make his loss more damaging by turning him into a points sink? ;) minigun762 The MM/DCCW normal Dread is just a poor man's Ironclad. If you have the points, its worth it to upgrade. Hey! It's all I've got! :P *shakes one DCCW at minigun762* :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182913-dread-choice/#findComment-2164804 Share on other sites

Grey Mage
Looks like an ironclad it is then. Any upgrades worth it other then the heavy flamer? Just the Heavy Flamer- he comes stock with extra armor, and most everrything else is just overkill and makes him topheavy on points.
