Crazy Wolf Guard Ideas

Logan Grimnar rocks us. That's because Wolf Guard are perhaps the most flexible unit in the whole game, and getting them for a troop choice is silly awesome fun. Some crazy Wolf Guard ideas I've come up with:

Landrhino Crusader (110 pt):

3 Wolf Guard, 2 Storm Bolter, 1 Combi-melta

Rhino, Extra Storm Bolter

Lulz for 8 bolter shots on an objective controller that can move 12"! For the bargain basement price of 110 pt.

Hot Tamale (185 pt):

5 Wolf Guard, 4 Combi-flamer, 1 TDA, 1 HF

Drop Pod, deathwind

Lulz for 5 flamer templates and an apple pie on your massed IG! (turn one no less)

Terminator Hunters (265 pt):

10 Wolf Guard, 10 Combi-plasma

Rhino/Drop pod

Freeeeeee pllllaaasssma!!!

Super Skirmishers (230 pt):

5 Wolf Guard, 5 Storm Bolter, 5 jump pack

Just try and catch them.

And remember, they all can control objectives!!! :)

Anyone else have some cool/silly ideas?

Well you gave me a damn good idea (for fun, no way in hell is it cost effective!)

THE 7 STEP PROGRAM TO FUN WITH WOLF GUARD!

1/ Take 10 Wolf Guard.

2/ Give said Wolf Guard Jump Packs.

3/ Arm said Wolf Guard with a nice weapon, maybe a frost blade or wolf claws.

4/ Arm them all with Meltabombs.

5/ Find the hardest unit the opponent is fielding.

6/ Smash the hell out of it.

7/ Repeat steps 5 & 6 until you win.

After playing with a game of Daemons of Chaos I was talking with my opponent and showed him a list I had built to deal with a Deathwing army, he misread the list and thought I had nine squads of Grey Hunters in Rhinos (it was a 1000 point list, I don't have a very big army) in the game one of my Grey Hunter squads was lead by a Wolf Guard with a storm bolter, the squad also had a meltagun, these did a bit of drive by shooting which helped take out his Blood Thirster while they were on the way to an objective.

With these two things in mind I made this 1.5K list

HQ

275 - Logan Grimnar

Elites

165 - Dreadnought in Drop Pod w/ Extra armor & Wolf Tooth Necklace & Assault Cannon & DCCW

165 - Dreadnought in Drop Pod w/ Extra armor & Wolf Tooth Necklace & Multi-melta & DCCW

(for dealing with any transport popping units)

Troops

125 - 3 Wolf Guard w/ Storm Bolter x2 & Combi-Melta in Rhino w/ Extra Armor & Extra Storm Bolter

That squad x6 for a total of 750

Heavy Support

140 - Long Fangs x6 w/ Missile Launcher x5

(Logan would go with this squad)

Total Points: 1495

I don't know how this list would do (I'm a kind of new player) But it would be funny to play with once

Wolf Gaurd- TDA, Powerfist, Combiweapon or SS- should run one of these with any Footslogging squad. The survivability almost always outweighs the sweeping advance.

Good advice. I'm going with Wolf Guard in TDA with Storm Bolter and Power Fist in each Footslogging Grey Hunter Pack that I intend to move to forward objectives, or to close with the enemy forces. Combi-weapon would be better, but I'm using the models I already have, and don't feel like making the swap.

I can understand- the old SBs are well made, and its always risky hacking them off the model.

That being said, the other one Im fond of is just 10x WG w/ 6 PWs, 2 SS and 2 PFs jumping out of a standard landraider. Much cheaper than a similar squad of vangaurd and fairly effective.

You can even throw TDA on a couple of them if you so choose, put heavy weapons on those and send them out to your squads, and TDAing up some of the ones in the LR to make up the "lost" space in the raider.

*note- Said squad runs about 550pts, or about 30 more than a full crusader of bloodclaws- you still get 4 attacks on the charge, 3 with the powerfist, but you ignore armor wich IMHO means you more than make up for the five lost men and their 20 regular attacks. The PF guys can have combiweapons for 10pts, wich will give you the two weapons you would from a pack of 15 BCs in a LRC*.
