Ragnawolf
Would a squad of 6 wolf guard with storm bolters in a razorback with TL HBs be good against orcs? i mean it seems like it would be good. any experience with something like this? I was also thinking of throwing in a RP with murderous hurricane and living lightning to take the place of one. Evilmerlin
You want to go against orcs, kit them with Combi-Flamers and the occasional Combi-Melta for the occasion Dread. Ragnawolf
even against massed foot sloggers? it seems like id wipe out a unit just to be charged next turn and wiped out myself. Grey Mage
6 Strong? 2 Powefists, 4 Stormbolters, 1 Stormshield, 1 Wolf Claw, 2 Combiflamers. Kill orks dead. Of course, 6x Stormbolter, 2x Powerfist is alot cheaper. Wispy
6 Marines aren't going to do much again a horde of orks, even footsloggers in the open. Just not enough dice. Ragnawolf
so just not enough bang for a whole elite choice then? mk thanks for the input! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182924-spacewolf-sternguard/#findComment-2163838 Share on other sites
Natanael
Maybe 10 WGs on foot w/ SBs would do some good. Thats 20 bolter shots a turn, at 24". Dont know about cost tough. Hrathnar Flintfang
I would personally avoid combis (Don't like em personally) and just kit them out with something like Wolf Claws or Termie Armor ext before tacking them on to any footslogging flamer-wielding GH you may have. Really one flamer shot per game for each model just doesn't seem worth it. The storm bolter Route might also work, but I am of the opinion that if your going to have a unit of WG by themselves you may as well go all out and buy them in TDA armor. lunchb0x
Ork Annoyance List : 5 man WG With Combi Flamers- Storm Shields - Power Weapons Rune Priest - Living Lightning, and the one that does 3d6 hits Twin Linked heavy bolters/Flamers - Razor Back. Jaarl Stormfang
Thing is, if you're putting them in a razor you may as well take hunters, as you can get close and then bolter = storm bolter. Of course you don't really want to be too close to orks, so I could see merit in a 10 strong unit with storm bolters. But then, for the same cost you could just take the equivalent number of heavy bolter long fangs, who are going to do more damage to orks. Audun
If you want to use Storm Bolters specifically, then go with Grey Knights. for 4 points more per model you get a storm bolter, and a constant (don't get extra for charging) 2 close combat attacks with S 6 weapons, and your Sarge has a S6 power weapon and 3 constant attacks (He's 50 points though, and compulsary) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182924-spacewolf-sternguard/#findComment-2164641 Share on other sites
Lord Ragnarok
one that does 3d6 hits I was theorizing Hurricane may work well against horde orks. Good to know. Except its a rare day youll actually want to be in the Razorback driving around- this gives you the capability of doing that, but really its mostly there to provide long range firepower to back up the squad.
