Midnight's Angels (PIC HEAVY)

Can't wait to see some paint on it, will be a nice addition to your force. Quick Q if I may, what are the FW brass etched symbols like to model with/paint over?

I'm thinking of ordering some on my next round of FW spending.

From my experience, they're a very good buy. Easy to use for the most part and they look good.

Yep, the hood is a shoulder pad with the studs on found in the tactical squad. I can't really take credit for the idea though it was stole from the management (Kurgen the Lurker). I have got to add some cables to it yet (guitar string ;) )

Hood - Tactical Squad shoulder pad filed down

Left Arm - 'any old arm' with the hand from a missile launcher added

Right Arm - Commander arm with Sanguinary Guard Glaive Encarmine

Body - Black Templar

Bob has it right, they are a very good buy, just make sure they are primed properly and they are sound.

How did you do the Librarian symbol shoulder pad? I see some greenstuff, but the horns don't appear to made of that.

Have tried to stay off forums a bit recently because I’ve actually been doing some productive things with my small amount of free time like painting, list building and playing :P Sadly nothing too exciting for you though sorry, finished my second tactical squad.

Sgt. Gabriel himself has had an upgrade since the codex hit – now he sports a bolter/powerfist combo, he has hung his helmet on the other side and got a better loin cloth:-

These guys will be my ever present in all lists hopefully to give me a decent fire base. No Libby as yet as I wanted to get some more 'grunts' done first, but rest assured though he is getting there. In the mean time I’ve started work on his boss, here is a taster:-

Probably a good idea, blue is soooo much easier to paint!

Thanks dude :P he is mid-paint at the moment, but getting there. The shoulder pad is one of the DC ones with the cross GS'd over. The horns are green stuff too (just not very good lol)

Wow, that´s a nice Tactical Squad! You did a good job on the static and dynamic poses(for two combat squads, I guess?), and the Sergeant looks great as well!

 

And the taster is tasty indeed! :P Inspires me to do a complete re-work of Mephiston, instead of chopping his arms off. :)

Yup, Sgt Gabriel is on a quest for martial perfection and as such 4th Squad, 3rd Co are one of the most well drilled in the chapter :blink:

 

Cheers Snorri, I do like the original Mephiston, but he is a bit 'stumpy' next to his brothers. Lets face it, with them stats the Lord of Death needs to be imposing as a pitbull on speed (a psychic one with a force weapon at that)

I love everything about your Libby but the teeth they are less "Fang" and more "Bucktooth"

 

Maybe if he had other teeth being shorter and the inscisors longer (Like a very thing line under his upper lip at the base of the teeth) but as it stands it looks like 2 teeth... with a huge gap.... which looks really ... red necky'

Those glowing effects look really cool, you can just imagine the raw psychic energy blasting away at Salem's foes. I will endeavour to use glowing effects on some Thousand Sons (if I ever get around to painting them), and when I do, I only hope that the effects turns out as well as Salems.

 

The only downside about this mini for me though midnight, is that I do think that those fangs make him look a little cartoony. And perhaps they take attention away from what is otherwise an excellent conversion / paint-job.

Good stuff. Love that Libby. Going to study that picture. I modeled mine with the hand like that as well and was thinking of a similar idea. Now I can stop thinking and just try to do what you did. ;) – I'd rather paint then puzzle about psychic palms anyway.

Thanks very much guys ;) When I modelled the fangs they looked a lot smaller, and when I painted them they seemed to grow! It was a fiddly job, I don't know how 'proper' sculptors do such tiny things! I *should* re-do them a la how Trent says, so watch this space but I'm lazy lol. Perhaps I should have called him Billybob instead of Salem lol.

 

@ Sepsis - eyes were dead simple, just a few glazes of electric blue around the eye area, then 1:1 electric blue:skull white, the paint in the eyes (without a pupil ;) )

 

@ Teeef - hand is also dead easy, just paint in electric blue, gradually working up to skull white in the centre. Same goes for the force weapon. (and having just looked at your mini's, I'm sure you will be able to do better than mine. They are awesome!)
