Hi all.

It may sound pretty obvious to you all, but I was going through the Space Wolf codex (again) and realised that some stuff that I think would suit the chapters current character are missing. Now I'm not saying the SW don't get more than enough cool stuff, and that its not a very very strong codex, but these things would be quite characterful. Here are a few examples:

Seige Dreadnought: the new codex (in vehicle etc entries) goes on about SW loving big, shouty, blasty, noisy war machines, that roar into battle etc. How much does the seige dreadnought fit this description? Up close, brutal and messy.... Plus it would look great in SW colours!!

thunderfire Cannon: Very same reason to be honest! its got the name THUNDER in the title :P and as SW are not a dedicated assault army, would still fit the theme (imagine one with wolf stylings, and a wolf maw cannon etc).

Anyway, just a few thoughts! please let me know what you think :D

We don't get them cause it's a codex idea basically. It's to differentiate the two armies into two different playstyles. From the marine lists I've played, they seem to mostly play a static shooting game, which the Thunderfire cannon suits very well.

We get BP,Bolter and CCW and CA and free special weapons, better scouts and Ragnar :D.

They get the new dread, speeder and Thunderfire cannon.

I am gutted about the Ironclad though. I was really looking forward to a dedicated close combat dreadnought, as I thought it would fit the army very well. Alas we were only given Bjorn instead :P

Ironclad dread is stupidly not in there, Space Wolves would love them..but I think they decided that with all the cool new SW stuff, we had to lose a few things. I know a lot of people would rather drop Thunderwolves for Ironclads, drop Predators for Exterminators, etc.. But in the end I think Phil decided that there'd be a lot of bitching from Codex Marines(More than there already is anyway).

I'm not too disappointed though, as with this new codex I'm enjoying fielding more infantry based lists, not footsloggers but definately over double the amount of Power Armoured Wolves as I did last codex.

they are going to come to use eventually anyway. why not give us at least the iron clad, i almost bought one and glad that i didnt. although i could and then just play my wolves as codex once in a while

balance?

we're too assault based as it is so shotguns would be adding to this

And the storm would be nasty with all the upgrades we're allowed, but I really like the model so it's my spotter vehicle in Apocalypse for my suppression force (with worse BS of course) and a unit of wolf scouts makes it a scary tactic but if my opponent doesn't agree with me using it I just run it as a Land Speeder as I prefer the model.

What I would have liked to see would be Wolf Guard being able to have Scout armour as it would make a unit of scouts look better in my opinion.

i guess a fluffy reason for the lack of storm bolters and shot guns would be you wouldn't be able to silence a shotgun or storm bolter, but you can a normal bolter and bolt pistols. our scouts are about the up close kill not the sit back in camo cloaks and try to snipe you kill. They get in your face and take you out quietly.

Surely they get in your back? And for some reason my scouts have a preference for sniper rifles...

lol....love the idea of silenced bolters....they fire miniature rockets!! The noise of a fireing bolter was in inquisitor (before dakka happened) and it went something like "KRAK-FWOOSH-KRUMP-BANG!" silencers would make it "ck-FWOOSH-KRUMP-BANG!"

Well there's stalker pattern silenced rounds. According to fourth edition rulebook at any rate, so I guess they don't explode. Obviously the correct term should be suppressed but thats me just being a pain.

And plasma guns likely can't be suppressed.

It just seems to me a Siege Dreadnaught doesn't seem to fit a: fast striking/counter striking army as I perceive the Space Wolve to be. I don't think that White Scars would necessarily get them either, IMO. UltraSmurfs, sure, or Iron Fists would seem better fits. Nilla Marines would depend on how the maker envisions them to be.

I doubt there is a good reason for the lack of shotguns, but disappointing all the same. On the up side, I kept the plastic bolters for them, so I guess I get a shooty scout squad now.

Other than that, not too many issues with whats 'missing'. Yea, ironclads would of been awesome. But, the ability to field up to three Venerable Dreads makes up for it in my mind. Would of liked to have seen some variety of Leman Russ, but getting the Redeemer makes up for it with me. The storm would of been cool, but cant say that I would of taken it very often.. because I doubt they would of let it work with OBEL.

my view on the thunderfire is that its artillery isnt it it doesnt involve grappling the enemy to the floor with your bare hands so the wolves dont like it :( for the same reason im not sure that spave wolves could hold a "seige" they'd just get bored once the kegs ran dry

on the other hand i do miss the fact we dont have dreads that can take 2 ccw :( that would be ausome

One of the most iconic wolf scout pictures was of a scout walking, holdinga shotgun. Loved that pic.

Which funnily enough appeared in the October White Dwarf, which confused me even more. It was definitely a beautiful piece of artwork. I guess he was just "special"

As for the leman russ...

Well I'm glad thats gone! It was only added to the wolves army in the last codex! and really did not fit at all.

I agree that it didn't fit, and am not bothered that it is gone, but in point of fact, the Leman Russ was available in the 2nd edition codex as well.
