Personally, I'm disappointed that we didn't get something that would make for the most awesome. Conversions. EVAR.

WOLF SCOUT BIKERS.

I mean, a bike is understandably impractical for maneuvering covertly, but I just imagine a wolf scout spying on an enemy force through a long-range viewing auspex, seeing the force move away, towards the main Space Wolves force. He then gets up, strides over to a nearby bush, and pulls away ghille netting to reveal a scout-pattern bike, rendezvousing with the rest of his pack (who, like him, are used to working independently), and flanking the enemy forces.

... and as SW are not a dedicated assault army, ...

Uhm.. What Space Wolves have you been playing?..

Anyway. There are only a few things that annoy me. No Ironclad Dreads, no Scout Bikers, and no wolf pelt wargear!

drop Predators for Exterminators, etc..

Lol. And lose our primary anti-tank vehicle? Riiight.

I'm only mad about losing the Exterminator because they're about to release the new Leman Russ battle tank for the Guard, and it has the Exterminator autocannons in the kit.

i guess a fluffy reason for the lack of storm bolters and shot guns would be you wouldn't be able to silence a shotgun or storm bolter, but you can a normal bolter and bolt pistols. our scouts are about the up close kill not the sit back in camo cloaks and try to snipe you kill. They get in your face and take you out quietly.

I call BS- a shell that is fired like a shotgun out the barrel an then activates into an RPG is NOT silenceable. End of story.

Camo Cloaks might not be great in HtH combat but theyll sure help you OBEL. Shotguns are good for breaching and short range firefights in enemy territory- wich is what theyd often have to do.

And the LSS should have been included as a Dedicated transport for them. It was frickin perfect! The absolute word in infiltrating enemy lines with a silent strike is a vehicle that uses antigravity to skim the surface of the plane to a DZ, unloads cloaked veterans with compact wargear, and then leaves before anyones the wiser.

Anyways- Ironclads I can see.... but I wish theyd discounted the Vendreads about 10-15pts to show our large numbers of dreads. I wish theyd kept the storm in. ICs I can see being dropped to give the Ultras something special, and Signums on the Seargents I wasnt expecting.

Of course... Ultras also get sterngaurd, and vangaurd... wich are nice units. Our WG are different, and that helps maintain some uniqueness too. Thunderfire cannons Im not suprised we lost- It was a cool unit, but not particularly wolfy.

And of course we have our own version of Honorgaurd :teehee:.

As for the leman russ...

Well I'm glad thats gone! It was only added to the wolves army in the last codex! and really did not fit at all.

I agree that it didn't fit, and am not bothered that it is gone, but in point of fact, the Leman Russ was available in the 2nd edition codex as well.

Valerian

I see no reason it didnt fit. We trace our vehicles lore back to the time when IG and SM were part of a combined arms force that crusaded accross the galaxy- the idea that wed have such vehicles around here and there doesnt seem odd. Heck, Im told were an example of one of the few chapters to still have Fellblades under their command. Id have liked to keep the exterminator at a reasonable price.

And a GH style bike unit would have been nice. I used to run a squad of Attack Bikes as a depleted GH squad being used in an effective capacity, and Im sad thats lost to me.

No weapon is capable of being silenced. You'd still have the click of the firing pin or whatever it uses and as I've said there are suppressed rounds that I would assume do not explode. Just the standard bolter round explodes, and possibly a few ammo types

The leman russ was in the 2nd ed codex? I really don't remember that, hey ho.

But it still did not fit, I remember when they suddenly introduced the fluff that 'its called the leman russ in honour of leman russ...' when in point of fact is was called the leman russ battle tank well before this idea emerged. It just did not suit space marines, why would this elite force use such an inferior, basic tank?

I'm really, really glad its taken out, because they never needed it.

Because that "Inferior, basic tank" can kick more alien and demon arse across the galaxy before the measly Predator can drive there!

Leman Russ > Predator

I like mine. So now I'm stuck with the question of "Should I tear off all the wolfy bits and slap some '51st Cadian' decals on it?"

Only reason I can see of it not fitting was its inglorious points cost.

i think it kinda sucks that they got rid of the Leman Russ tank, as it was something very unique for them (like the BA and their Baal pattern predators)

speaking of which, SW from what I've seen can run a very effective list with few, if any vehicles, which i find kinda cool (never liked vehicles much.....they just get in the way of the up-close smashing!)

nope. exterminators didnt exist in 2ed. wolfs got them because it was a new model ready to be sold and IG was far in the future and because DT found it a good idea[just like the no jump packs or no teleportation stuff].

I'll double check my 2nd edition codex when I get home, but I know I had one painted up for my Space Wolves army when I was in college; I doubt I would have done that if it wasn't in the codex at the time. Of course I might be mistaken, and perhaps was just a little forward thinking and gave myself a Leman Russ for my Space Wolves before GW decided to follow suit and do it too.
