cherrboh
i noticed something else about ulrik the slayer and a fluff inconsistency/change. Previously, he was given the Wolf Helm by Ragnar after Ragnar won some sort of challenge and gave it to him as a sign of respect. Now its a sign he is the lead Wolf Priest? anyone notice any other changes or errors in fluff? wiplash
so? its not contradicting itself is it? just because ragnar gave it to him doesnt mean it hasnt become his icon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182990-an-interesting-observation/#findComment-2164843 Share on other sites
Quillen
Actually it is. It was a prize for an event. And Ragnar won it the last time. So he gave it to Ulrik. So how can something used in an event of prowess be a sysmbol for the head of the Wolf Priests? Simple they screwed up the fluff again. ? Raulmichile
Yep, although I like this last version of the fluff a little more. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182990-an-interesting-observation/#findComment-2164871 Share on other sites
Hawca
altho for those who remember 2nd ed codex fluff our scouts were the recruits just like the standard SM Dex. i personally like the fact they changed that part of the fluff Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/182990-an-interesting-observation/#findComment-2164907 Share on other sites
Valerian
Yep, although I like this last version of the fluff a little more. I actually like the new version better. I think the Wolf Helm of Russ fits better as belonging to the "chief" Wolf Priest of the chapter. It is, after all, one of the chapter's relics and this makes more sense to me, than it does to have it used as a prize in some competition. I'll have to go back to the 2nd edition codex and see what the fluff on the Helm was originally. So how can something used in an event of prowess be a sysmbol for the head of the Wolf Priests? Simple they screwed up the fluff again. As I remember, no one liked the Ragnar story behind it because it foggled the timeline of Ulrik's life, and how the novels have Ragnar being taught under a different wolf priest. Secondly, such a contest could actually make sense, and rolls with the wolfpack inspiration. Dominant wolves are always competeing with eachother. Perhaps a young male will find an existing pack and try to make a grab for Alpha position. A challenge among the Wolf Priests for title and rights to being "Alpha" wolf priest makes sense to me. Yes, but the challenge wasn't between the Wolf Priests, and the prize (one of the chapter's most sacred relics) seems to be a little too significant for such a contest. LoneSniperSG
Yes, but the challenge wasn't between the Wolf Priests The entry also never said that it wasn't exclusively for Wolf Priests. Perhaps it is meant only for the Priests, and Ulrik chose a delegate in his absence or something. ...and the prize (one of the chapter's most sacred relics) seems to be a little too significant for such a contest. V Think about this. What other way would the Space Wolves distribute such a relic? How does a Grey Hunter get into the Wolf Guard? How does ANYONE even get recruited into the Space Wolves in the first place? They don't have ranks, age and experience have too much potential to vary, and we don't care about medals and such, only about who is the strongest and toughest, so I think a contest to earn the Wolf Helm is the most reasonable way for it to be passed on from warrior to warrior within the chapter. Wildfire
altho for those who remember 2nd ed codex fluff our scouts were the recruits just like the standard SM Dex. i personally like the fact they changed that part of the fluff Maybe I'm just old, but I really liked the older fluff better. For almost everything. Plus, the old wolf scouts were some of the best things in the 2e 'dex. They could get blind grenades, one of the best pieces of wargear ever! Ranvir Krakendoom
Lots of things have changed in the fluff as new dex's are released. For instance, the latest edition of the dex has the symbol of the night runner as Logan Grimnar's company badge prior to him becoming great wolf. The old 2nd ed allocated that badge to Alarik Nightrunner. Timelines move along and all things must change.
