Hackbar
A thought occurred to me earlier today. 1. Can a Grey Knight Hero without retinue join a non-GK squad? 2. IF a GK Hero joins a non-GK squad, (Tactical Marines, for the sake of example) does The Shrouding apply? The Aegis? number6
1. Can a Grey Knight Hero without retinue join a non-GK squad? He's an Independent Character, so he can join (almost) any unit he likes. 2. IF a GK Hero joins a non-GK squad, (Tactical Marines, for the sake of example) does The Shrouding apply? The Aegis? No in both cases. Both powers specify that the target of shooting (or psyker power) must be a Grey Knights unit. It doesn't matter that a GK Hero has joined a Marines tac squad, the target of shooting (or psyker power) is always the tac squad and never any IC that happens to be joined. Even if the IC is a GK Hero. Firstly, the target is the unit, not the IC. And secondly, ICs can never be independently targeted when they are part of a unit. So however you look at it, the GK special rules you mention can't come into play. They are never triggered. avatar8481
except for things like mind war, number 6 is correct. vindicare assassins might also have to test for shrouding. Eddie Orlock
2. IF a GK Hero joins a non-GK squad, (Tactical Marines, for the sake of example) does The Shrouding apply? The Aegis?... So however you look at it, the GK special rules you mention can't come into play. They are never triggered. There might be a corner-case where they may apply. Consider a marine army that takes an allied GK Hero along side an ordinary Marine HQ character, and perhaps one or more Techmarines. (alternatively witchhunters with a cannoness and elite inquisitors, or even Guard with Primis Psykers, and Priests) In the Current Edition, characters are allowed to join each other and form super units of super-men. Suppose, the owning player for what ever reason decided to place all three independents in a unit, would it benefit from the Shrouding, and/or, the Ageis? I submit that the answer is 'Maybe'. It would depend on whether the player declared it as the Captain and the Techmarine joining the Hero, in which case the unit is the Grey Knight with attachments and it benefits from those rules. Any other declaration and it wouldn't. Just thought I'd muddy the waters a bit. In general, no, attaching the Hero would not grant the rules. Note that it would retain them itself, if it was specifically picked out, with Mind War, for example. number6
Shrouding and Aegis still wouldn't kick in. The BRB describes units of nothing but ICs as IC units. So they're still not GK units, AND you still can't individually target any of the ICs composing an IC unit, so no dice.
