MagneticFreak
Hi there, Here are three interelated questions for which I cannot find answers anywhere. 1. I would like, as many people do, to have my lone wolf in a rhino. Now, I plan to buy a rhino for one of my grey hunters squad, which is in fact destined to go inside a Land Raider bought from the Heavy Support part of the list. Can I do this? I mean, place my grey hunters between the land raider and the dedicated rhino, jump inside the land raider and put the lone wolf inside the rhino afterwards? 2. Also, what if your wolf guards buy a dedicated transport (rhino, say), but you then split them between your different squads, what happens with the transport? Near which squad must it deploy? 3. Can I buy a drop pod and send it whitout any passengers? I would like to buy Deathwind launchers and send these early in the game to buy some time, while my opponent struggles with a immobile, useless transport creatings big holes in his troops. Thanks, Doc Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183111-lone-wolf-in-rhino-and-hollow-drop-pods/ Share on other sites
DV8
You do not need to deploy in dedicated transports. You could in practice deploy your Grey Hunters on one side of the table, and your Rhino on the other side, and it would still be perfectly legal (dedicated transports are units in their own right and do not need to maintain coherency with any other unit). You could even deploy your Grey Hunters in the Land Raider at the start of the game, assuming that the Raider isn't dedicated, and there's room for all the Grey Hunters. (Note however that the Lone Wolf cannot deploy in the Rhino...he must embark on Turn 1). If you have a pack of Wolf Guard, all assigned, then any transport purchased for them must begin the game empty, but can be deployed anywhere. And in that regard, Drop Pods need not have a squad in them. You could drop the Drop Pod empty but you must note that the squad it was purchased for must either be held specifically in Reserves, or deploy on the table. Grimfoe
That's an excellent explanation and I agree with each point made. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183111-lone-wolf-in-rhino-and-hollow-drop-pods/#findComment-2166101 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
*nods* I use empty DPs all the time- gives some cover, box in enemy units, and of course... if you want to you can put the unit in it instead :P. When you play a DP list, you should always consider the viability of just not using them that game. Its alot better to deploy out of them against some agressive lists and just hit them from range with the bolters and LR firepower you brought. MaleOpener
Kudos, DV8, for the thorough explanations. I've had my share, of going against players, deploying 'empty' drop-pods. However, they don't open them, which effectively blocks LoS all over the place. I don't bother with a transport, for my Lone Wolf, instead giving him a storm shield and a thunder hammer then sending him off on his merry way. He's tough to kill, and knocks models around silly. Godhead
Here is the question I had already asked about putting the lone wolf in a transport. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=183044 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183111-lone-wolf-in-rhino-and-hollow-drop-pods/#findComment-2166178 Share on other sites
Spazmonkey
If your going to have a lone wolf in a rhino, why not use a razorback instead? Gives him some heavy weapon support? just a thought..... Oldenhaller
If your going to have a lone wolf in a rhino, why not use a razorback instead?Gives him some heavy weapon support? just a thought..... Generally because he wants to get up close to the fighting so the rhino will be running him 12" per turn to get there. If he's in a razorback it'll either move 6" to fire it's guns thus wasting the transport option or move 12" and not fire. ~O Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183111-lone-wolf-in-rhino-and-hollow-drop-pods/#findComment-2166602 Share on other sites
