Epic Thoughts
I'm going to be getting some Space Wolves sometime in the next few weeks, and, I've been looking at the picture thread stickied here. There's some great work, but I noticed some people are using different colors than what I've seen in the new codex. There's what looks like a very pale space wolf grey, and, there's a very dark looking codex grey color that a lot of people are using. Does anyone know what colors these are, or what colors are mixed to get them? Thanks in advance. Terrahawk
I'm fairly certain you will find this thread useful. Yes, we have very talented people here at the Fang. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183130-a-question-about-paints/#findComment-2166264 Share on other sites
nurglespuss
Hi there :) Currently there appear to be four 'main' routes: Shadow Grey - Space wolves grey Fenris Grey - astronomican or space wolves grey Codex grey - fortress grey Space wolves grey - washes I've gone for the Fenris grey route (as I'm out of shadow grey & space wolves grey! and have been too busy to get anywhere near a GW). Hfran Morkai
I use a simple system of Shadow Grey and liberal coating of Badab Black wash, I will eventually highlight the suckers with Space Wolf Grey if I pluck up the courage but I like the dark route. Simo429
a lot of people have been mentioning fenris grey as an undercoat can you get this in a spray? Terrahawk
a lot of people have been mentioning fenris grey as an undercoat can you get this in a spray? I'm pretty sure that's a negative. Fenris Grey is one of those foundation paints and I'm fairly certain they don't come in sprays. But the foundation paints are meant to work quite well with the citadel spraygun as the paint and water levels on the paint jar are for the foundation paint consistency. However I've never used that piece of kit having a proper airbrush/compressor. Hfran Morkai
I've heard mixed things about their spraygun but I avoided it like the plague anyway, decided if I was going to spray my models I'd get a proper airbrush kit and picked one up with a compressor dirt cheap from my work. nurglespuss
Well, if it didn't look like a toy gun, I would give one a go! I have an airbrush and compressor, but suck at using it, so gave up :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183130-a-question-about-paints/#findComment-2166702 Share on other sites

It's good ol' fashioned brush all the way for me! :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183130-a-question-about-paints/#findComment-2166737 Share on other sites

It's good ol' fashioned brush all the way for me! :D Yeah, it just looks like a gimmick to be honest whilst they can claim they provide just about anything you could want. The idea of basecoating almost 200 Space Wolves and 6 Land Raiders plus at least two of every other tank (barring rhinos) and four razorbacks and vindicators made me see sense in buying a compressor kit. I would have to kill myself otherwise. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183130-a-question-about-paints/#findComment-2166767 Share on other sites
Hotspur
I go with a brush too. I haven't tried using an airbrush, either, so I probably wouldn't be any good with it. I like to use Tamiya paints; they've always worked very well for me. They have some really good shades of grey, too.
