Additions to my Chaos marine collection…..

Recommended Posts

After completing a 1500 point Death Guard force I have decided to extend my chaos collection, and I want to mix things up from just painting Nurgle.

I am aiming for another 1500 points of Chaos so that when combined with the Death Guard I’ll have a 3K list, and with my bitz box overflowing I can’t see this being a problem (the box even has an unassembled Defiler & Predator tank in it!)

Starting this thread so that anyone who’s interested can follow my progress and give me some C & C over the coming month’s …

Here is a WIP of the 1st additions to my collection. 5 Chaos marines…

I have started to paint them as Alpha Legionnaire’s :P

Excelent paintjobs and its nice to see some classic chaos marines there.

What have you sculpted in the plasma gunners knee pads?

Could you post a detail shot?

Yeah seen the classics on ebay a while back & just had to get them. I have tried (and i emphasise the word 'tried') to sculpt some scales onto his knee pads. Here's a pic of him, photo is a bit dodgy though because of the glare of the metal.

Managed to get the plasma gunner painted, here is the finished result. Let me know what you think.

Also I have been a little distracted from the marines by my un-assembled defiler. I wanted to fit a dccw but think that the one that GW supplies is rubbish ;)

Don't you agree that it IS RUBBISH???

So I rooted around the kitchen for a few useful bits & believe it or not I came accross a whisk, which I began to dismantle.

A bit of gluing & pinning here & there, then the result:-

The whisk handle is the spring along the arm, I reinforced inside it with some copper pipe. I also used two old Tyranid swords for the blades (be good for decapitating loyalists, eh?)

Cogratulations for the plasmagunner, it looks really great.

Only sugestion is a blue wash on the scales

Yeah that's an idea, I used a badab black wash but I reckon a blue wash would look better. Cheers ;)

I have progressed my Alpha Legion Defiler. Legs are complete and I have added a few little tweaks here & there for a bit of personalisation. Here are some pic’s, let us know what you think.

The Chaos icon is my 1st real go at freehand, so C & C is definitely welcome here http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww325/chkj83/Sepsis%20reinforcments/DSCF1160.jpg

Highlighted Alpha Legion transfer / scales

Finally I have converted some Dark Elf bitz in to a Hydra Icon for the Defiler Tank

That is just too damn cool.

It could make a great squad Icon as well. :D

I really Like your go at Alpha Legion. It looks Great.. Your Paint is Nice and Clean. and your color scheme transfers well from Troop to vehicle..

That being said Im not sure the "scaled" knee pads really worked out.. The Idea is inspired and the model itself came out really well But I would give another go at sculpting the scales ..

I like your Defiler! there are a few spots That I think that could Do with a few More scales. like the small groupings around the Hydra on the claws which come off more like rain drops rather then scales atm..

Just my 2 cents..

Looks Good.

love the trophy rack.. I will now forever cringe at the sight of Eye-hooks...

Yeah I am not happy with those knee pads, I have found a good 'moulding scales' topic on this site by Targol so I'll be giving his tutorial a go. Could put his technique to use on the rest of my squad too B)

In the mean time I'm gonna add some more scales to that claw. Completely agree the hydra claw needs more scales, to be honest I thought that area was lacking scales when I was painting but I was in a lazy mood (+ as I had painted so many on the other claw)... Cheers for C & C dude.

Brother Nihm as soon as you suggested using the hydra icon for my squad, I just couldn’t resist the temptation. I have assembled this dude.

I didn’t have a duplicate metal part to Defiler’s hydra icon but improvised with Khornate & Slanneshi icons from the CSM sprue. I simply removed the Khorne / Slannesh icons, assembled the framework until they matched up, and then fixed my converted hydra to the framework.

Finally after about 3 ½ weeks assembling and painting…the Defiler… is finally finished. I never appreciated how detailed these Daemon engines are until I picked up this fella. Here's a few pic's :-

I hope you like it and as always, C & C are welcome. Now I must finish that 1st Alpha Legion squad of mine, and with the Defiler now finished I shouldn’t have any more distractions. Then again I have just ordered the Forgeworld Khorne Berzerkers Upgrade Kit…so I could be wrong.

Fair do's mate you have done it again! Looks a beast, and that close combat weoapon turned out well. Any chance of a close up of the leering face at the back too? Going to pop round Weds or Thurs, but wouldn't mind a glimpse beforehand.

Yeah I'm happy with the DCCW, and the lady still hasn't noticed that the small whisk is missing! Couldn't magnetise it like I wanted to though, it was just WAY TOO HEAVY for the magnets to hold it up in the pose that I wanted. Had to pin it.

And as requested the leering face...
