Alex.ö
So I had two Baneblade sponsons left over and I also happened to have a butchered Vindicator. The result: a very heavily armored Razorback. The thought behind it is that it's meant for close-quarters city-fighting to back up squads of marines where a standard RB just doesn't quite cut it. I'm thinking about either: A.) keeping the current weapon load out B.) giving it two assault-cannons or C.) two twin-linked heavy flamers. It's meant for pure giggles and for the hell of building it so the legality of it game-wise isn't important. Still very WIP, nothing has even been glued together yet except for the sides of the Rhino. Pics are kinda crappy since they're taken with my phone and from my workspace... PS: De-studifying (shaving the studs off) was a pain. I can't imagine doing it to an entire Baneblade... http://errur.com/f/download/3521_Razor,_front.JPG http://errur.com/f/download/7732_Razor,_back.JPG Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183259-heavily-armored-razorback-design/ Share on other sites
Zeller
It's kinda cool looking actually. Reminds me of a WWI tank. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183259-heavily-armored-razorback-design/#findComment-2167428 Share on other sites
MiniDan
It looks alright from the front, but from the back it looks a bit out of place. Well done none the less! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183259-heavily-armored-razorback-design/#findComment-2167434 Share on other sites
A17roolz
It looks ok, but mechanically I don't think it'd work. Razorback turrets are meant to have, to my knowledge (I rarely field Razorbacks) a 360 degree firing arc, and that looks bolted into place, so personally, if you're looking for whether I think it should be with or without the armour, I'd say without purely for mechanical reasons and not asthetic. lionofjudah
LOVE IT!!! that is a great idea mate!! perhaps pushing the turret to the midlde or the front to allow the bolters a greater arc over the front of the hull though as in their present position they wouldnt be able to shoot over the front and you are losing a few inches with them in the rear.... Terrible_Trygon
I suggest pushing the turret to the middle and then putting another pair of Baneblade sponsons behind that. That way you would have a 360 degree firing arc and a solid looking tank. Alex.ö
I'll look into the idea of adding additional sponsons to it to give it the 360 arc. Pushing the turret to the middle shouldn't pose a problem at all. All that's remaining is finding the time to get some work done on it... Terrible_Trygon
Also, I would consider making the rhino look heavier, and add rivets everywhere. Alex.ö
Also, I would consider making the rhino look heavier... How do I make it look heavier though? Beefing up the front plate and the back-door? It's already got the extra armor. Also: What weapon config do people think would work the best? Still can't make up my mind about that. Assault cannons, TL HF or keep the bolters? Rindaris
I made a rhino chassis that had extra armor, looks pretty nice. granted, I don't know how well it would work with a new rhino model though. http://fc06.deviantart.com/fs46/f/2009/205/5/d/Ka_tet_Vindicator_turret_style_by_Rindaris.jpg I took the armor from the imperial vehicle sprue and worked with it to add to the sides of the tank. Alex.ö
Well. I did manage to beef it up a bit by adding some plating to the front and the back of it. Still not glued it into place so it's preliminary for now. Pics to follow. Replica
I like it, looks really old as everyone has been saying, maybe some kind of lost STC prototype? Alex.ö
Sooo.... Resurrecting this because of some progress made: Moved the turret forward, beefed up both front and rear plate, added small track-dozers. http://errur.com/f/download/5949_New_razor,_top.JPGhttp://errur.com/f/download/8167_New_razor,_front-top.JPG A lot of gap filling and stuff to do but at least I'm moving it forward inch by bloody inch... Still very WIP of course Edit: Spelling... FM Ninja 048
I really like the little track dozers, they are almost cute very pratical and look really cool Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183259-heavily-armored-razorback-design/#findComment-2205415 Share on other sites
sgtNACHO
I like it! This latest version you got looks pretty sick, I'm not sure if you should try and make that front plate one cohesive plate, or leave the three plate. I'm kinda leaning three plate. Good luck!! Justicar Valius
It's kinda cool looking actually. Reminds me of a WWI tank. I don't know about that as WW1 tanks looked very much like Mk1 landraiders but it still looks very nice. Also nice use of chimera track armour Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183259-heavily-armored-razorback-design/#findComment-2205451 Share on other sites
Terminatorinhell
When he said WW1 tanks he probably meant around that era, like the Whippet http://www.webmatters.net/graphics/photos/...s/tank_mem3.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183259-heavily-armored-razorback-design/#findComment-2205477 Share on other sites
Alex.ö
Been filling a lot of gaps last night. Next up is to smoothen out the GS (once it's properly cured). A few tweaks here and there and a lot of detailing to do but then I'd say it's ready to paint. commander alexander
Just a personal opinion, but I think the sponsons would look better on the sides, and it would still look heavily armored. The_Chaplain
Just a personal opinion, but I think the sponsons would look better on the sides, and it would still look heavily armored. I'm inclined to agree, but then it would make the "razorback" into a predator sans the turret mounted autocannon or lascannon. Alex.ö
I tried blue-tacking the sponson onto the sides when I was sill toying with the basic idea but they looked oversized and way out of place.
