stinkenheim
heres some pics of my finished wolf lord. i'm thinking of changing his hair colour, to either dirty blonde or black amd would like opinions on that. I also think i'm going to add a couple more highlights to the skull on his wrist, and possibly on the shoulder too although that doesn't look too bad. http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00853.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00854.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00855.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00856.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00857.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00862.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00866.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00869.jpg oh and also as for the shield, i don't know why it looks so odd in this set of pics but heres a better representation of it from the WIP shots, the shield was finished when this was taken, and the logo doesnt seem quite so stark and contrasting http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00799.jpg any comments and critiques would be nice guys :) btw, i will be editing in a single group pic when i get photoshop on my new comp... so it won't always be so pic heavy +EDIT+ added some hopefully slightly better pics now my camera actually has battery :)
Evilmerlin
Very nice work! Particularly the hammer and the wolf pelt! I've got 2 questions! 1. Where did the shield come from? 2. How did you make the right handed storm shield?
Shiodome
that looks suspiciously like one question ;)
StratoKhan
Hey, that model looks familiar! Mind if I grab a painted shot of the cloak for your tutorial? If anything I would go with a whiter grey for the hair as the miniature is quite dark overall. Maybe I would look into brightening up the metallics a tiny bit? The shield is interesting, I take it you were trying to acheive an embossed/engraved metallic effect there? It works very well with the background stuff like the lightning and the rocks, but then I think what lets it down is the actual wolf symbol, it looks stuck on there, what happened? I like all the nicks and scuffs in the armour, and your grey and yellow are very nice. All in all, coupled with the scenic base I'd say you have a good model, perhaps the shield needs a rework however. The base looks nice too, I like the snow bases for Wolves. I think sometimes the photography is a bit blurry and that makes it harder to see transitions in the paintjob and other such details. But I understand completely, I'm still very poor at photography, I definitely have serous problems with focus. My final comment regards the lighting, the big dark shadow in the background suggests you have only a single light trained on the model, a second light from the other side might improve the visibility on the model, making it easier to see detail. But anyways, you've done a good job. I hope my commentary helped a little.
Vash113
That's a very cool Wolf Lord, the pose is nicely dynamic too. As for the hair I'd leave it grey. They aren't called "Grey" Hunters for a reason, as Space Wolves age their hair often (not always) but often turns grey, a good haggard Wolf Lord should usually have grey hair in my opinion. Fire Lord Captain
Wow I love it! Everyday I see an awesome painted wolf I am drawn closer to buying some myself... Loving the Spartan shield. IMO I would paint the hair a black with strands of grey in it, it might make it stand out more in the grey armour. Top notch work!!

stinkenheim
Firstly thanks for the responses guys :) @ Evilmerlin the shield is from the limited edition white dwarf on shield bearers (the one they had with gotrek and bugman carrying the white dwarf around) please don't hit me for using it, but i sold off my dwarf army and kept that model... i clipped off the hands of the two dwarfs and filed the runes on the front down i then smoothed it with greenstuff. its actually just been put on a normal storm bolter arm, the hand hand the bolter clipped off and then the handle was drilled out. i greenstuffed the straps in place and figured once it was on the model with the cloak hanging down it would be very hard to see. the hammer was from a dwarf engineer, pinned onto a techmarine hand with the handle lengthedned using plasticrod and then greenstuffed over. @stratokhan take what you need mate i'm not going to complain :D as for the shield, originally i was going to just paint the logo on the shield, then thought about doing it to look engraved. the first time i painted the logo it was nearly as dark as the background and didn't show up so i decided to touch it up a bit and make it stand out a bit more. in the pics it looks really stark, like the backgound is a really dark brown metal and the logo is bright silver but honestly in real life the background is a much warmer, lighter brown and the logo is a lot less vibrant and sits on it much more comfortably. i get that alot with my golds and i did actually make them brighter on this guy than my normal models, i think as you say the pics aren't the greatest so it didn't help too much... @vash yeah i was thinking the different colour hair may help him stand out a bit though... im still not sold on this but i think it'll be left for a while. @ GI Joker its a custom mix, 4 parts adeptus battlegrey, 2 parts regal blue and 1 part black (i think, i mixed up a big old pot of it so haven't had to make it up for a while) i then wash with devlan mud and badab black (watered down) before adding fortress grey to the mix and highlighting. i think this guy even got a thinned wash of blue right near the end to stop him being too grey. I'm aiming for a middle ground between the baby blue of GW wolves and the pre-heresy codex grey scheme. and to the rest of you thank you kindly :) Andy

stinkenheim
Well I finished my Land Raider that I pledged for the ETL vow, just finished it a couple of days late... Still, figured it'd be rude not to post pics. I also decided it'd be a bit strange not to post finished models in the HoH so I'm going to use this thread for anything (wolfy) I finish. http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0735.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0736.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0738.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0740.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0741.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0739.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0737.jpg I've also finished the small details on my vindicator (although I can't find the little targetting bit that goes on the top!!). http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0727.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0728.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0732.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0733.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0734.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/SAM_0729.jpg And a Wolf Guard pack leader from ages ago. http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00445.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00442.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00443.jpg http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp86/stinkenheim/DSC00444.jpg

Cornelias
Nice work! Really like the dark gritty tones combined with classic "Eavy Metal" style metallics, suits the wolves down to the ground. The Wolf Guard pack leader is my favorite i think ;)
stinkenheim
Well here's the predator.
