White Hunter
I am building my DIY force, and am looking at using the "suicide" dread tactic, and dropping 2 dreadnoughts in on turn 1 (Third pod will be a tactical squad). So I was wondering what type of dreadnought would be better for this a standard or an Ironclad? I am envisioning this loadout: Standard Multimelta Heavy Flamer DDCW xtra armor (HOW ESSENTIAL IS THIS?) IronClad Heavy Flamer/Melta Gun DDCW/Seismic hammer What do you guys think is better, and why? glayvin34
So you've got a standard dread with a heavy flamer and multimelta for shooting with 2 Str 10 power fist attacks, and an Ironclad with a heavy flamer and meltagun for shooting with 3 Str 10 attacks. You're trading the multimelta for a meltagun and 1 more attack and +1 on the vehicle damage chart at a cost of about 20 points. I play primarily against MEQ with light vehicles, so I would probably go with the standard dread configuration you've got. The extra armor is probably good because even if he gets wailed on the first turn, if he's not destroyed and still has the multimelta then he can shoot. There's a chance your quarry will escape after you drop, so the 24" on the multimelta would at least allow you to shoot them. However, if you plan on taking down heavy vehicles then you should take the IC. And if you're gonna see hordes you should probably do an assault cannon instead of a multimelta, but I assume you're not magnetizing. But, of course, if you're dropping two dreads, won't you do one of each? waaanial00
Have you even searched a little bit before posting this question? This might sound a little grouchy but its similarly titled and on the same page at the moment.Linky. This post is probably good enough to answer your questions. It even has two links to other posts on the subject as well (also added by me), which goes into a further discussion about uses of dreads in general.
