Ravenfeld
I have been thinking and rethinking my lists over and over and I can't decide on what style of play I want to go for. First and foremost I want to be competitive whilst maintaining a fluffy Iron Hands force. At first I thought of having an orbital strike force utilizing multiple pods (I think it was 7). Then I made a list based around transports to move up the field with terminators in raiders. Well I just wanted to know how well Footslogging does in most games. Essentially I wanna know what you guys feel are the pro's and con's of each of the three methods of movement and troop delivery. Being Iron Hands I am not going buck wild with fast attack choices (limiting myself to one, probably land speeders, assault squad, or a LSS for scouts). I also wanted to make my list heavy on the Plasma, so it will most likely end up being a gunline style of list. I am deviating from my own topic here. Alright so what are your thoughts on the pro's and con's of each of these strategies? I only play Death Guard and I primarily use transports to deploy Plague Marines geared towards assaulting, so a gunline is doubly appealing. I usually play at 1850 as well, if that helps. Thanks in advance! --Putrius Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183417-what-tactics-to-use/ Share on other sites
Giga
Iron Hands would work best as mech. It's both fluffy and effective. For a 1750 pts game get something like 3 tac squads in rhinos and razorbacks (IH love razorbacks!), get a LR with terminators and a killer HQ inside, and then add whatever support anti-tank/anti-infantry units you like. Speeders, attack bikes, sternguard, even dreadnoughts, to fill in the niches your army needs at that point. thade
Rhinos will change your game. They are pointswise very, very cheap, and radically increase your mobility. I also enjoy Razorbacks, as they allow me to put even more assault cannons on the field. FabulousRex
I've always seen Iron Hands as big proponents of the Razorback. You can cram even more firepower on the table and still have mobility and long-range support. How's about this for my vision of an IH force: Cpt w/various CC death All-Plasma CmndSqd in Razorback w/TL AsltCnn VenDread w/PC Techmarine w/Servoharness x2 2-3 TacSqds w/Plasma and Razorbacks w/TL AsltCnn DevSqd w/Missles Thunderfire Cannons to taste. So you keep your 1/2 TacSqds packing heavy weapons,DevSqd, and T-Fires in your deployment zone, with the VenDread providing them. Your Razors move out in a wedge to engage the enemy with massive firepower on the move, and Troops popping out to take Objectives. Your HQ targets high-threat units as needed. Race Bannon
How about using all of them? Stay flexible as a player. Buy sticking to one you might become predictable. Especially if you start using the same list over and over. Terrain may be different but what you do with what you have might not. On the fluff, I'm not an Iron Hands guru, but they are still Space Marines. They may have a preference of style, but that doesn't mean they stick to it 100% of the time. And neither should you. Each game is a microcosm of the grand campaign, maaaybe over here they are hoofing it. The point is, regardless of fluff, do what makes you feel comfortable, but stay flexible. Just like the Space Marines are designed to be. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183417-what-tactics-to-use/#findComment-2177313 Share on other sites
