WG Vrox
What are you doing to protect your LF investment? I am considering running a WG in TDA with a SS/PW to take hits for the pack until he dies, sort of like a sheild barrer for the pack, is it worth the 48 ponts? AcidBurn
to be honest i dont realy do anything my opponents are too pre-occupied worrying about the 20+ blood claws rushing them to notice the longfangs lol so in conclusion i would say just get all up in your opponents face with troops so he dusnt notice them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183465-how-do-you-protect-your-long-fangs/#findComment-2169840 Share on other sites
Hfran Morkai
to be honest i dont realy do anything my opponents are too pre-occupied worrying about the 20+ blood claws rushing themto notice the longfangs lol so in conclusion i would say just get all up in your opponents face with troops so he dusnt notice them I agree with this, there are other, far nastier units your opponents will be watching for if they know a Wolf player, you'll probably have them scared at the prospect of scouts, even if you don't field them and Grey Hunters are not to be messed with and someone who lets blood claws into their gunline is in trouble. Vlk
Well, at 1000 pts games, I'll probably field them in a TLLC Razorback (because my friend's Defiler Battlecannon is just nasty and I want them not to die before they get a shot) and there will be a 5-man plasma toting Grey Hunter unit sitting at home objective to protect them from deep-strikers. I might attach a WG termie with a CML to them for the increased firepower. Grimwulfe
Put a pack of wolves in front of them to screen them they can take shots or assault anything to close Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183465-how-do-you-protect-your-long-fangs/#findComment-2169885 Share on other sites
rodgers37
I don't have any Long Fangs yet....but i will either drop pod them with Logan (as long as its aloud :) , or sit them at the back with LC or ML, in cover.....and not worry too much about them...... Lord Ragnarok
Razorback? I think if I attach a WG, I'd make him a little more useful and give him cyclones. and maybe a fist to make assaulting them a little less palatable. Grey Mage
I put them in cover. Cover save+distractions+dead enemy LR firepower = living long fangs. Allerka
Putting them in cover is an obvious first step. Screening with other units (whether a unit designed specifically to screen or just with the rest of your army as it advances) is a good thing too. Providing distractions is the best. Last game I did, I had a Vindicator, two Rhinos, and my TWC more or less in between the LFs and the enemy, so he spent all his time firing at them instead, and the Fangs never had a shot go their way. Pay attention to fire lanes too. When you're setting up (or getting them into position), stick them where they can have some good lines of sight to enemy units, but not in turn be in sight of the whole enemy army to be shot back at. That'll go a long ways towards cutting down on incoming fire for them as well. A transport is good too for shielding and helping them get into position in Dawn of War setups. Also, Grimnar making them Relentless = awesome if you wanna try it. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183465-how-do-you-protect-your-long-fangs/#findComment-2169951 Share on other sites
Lord Ragnarok
The tactic of shielding them from everything but the lane you wanted to effect was my thought process with the razorback. The razorback would position away from things that thd LF's are not shooting but not obstruct those targets they need to destroy. I've only played drop pod, and this was always my DP tactic. Use the pod to block LoS except the things I needed to slag. Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
i dont bother to defend mine. i place them in the best cover i can find, and then make the rest of my army the more inviting targets (usually a wave of GHs worry people a bit) WLK Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/183465-how-do-you-protect-your-long-fangs/#findComment-2170114 Share on other sites
Duke Corwin
Put a heavy bolter (or two) in the pack. Allocate the first wound to it as it is a cheap option. The HB protects the more expensive HWs. With split fire the AT weapons fire at vehicles and the AP weapons (like the HBs) fire at troops. ChainsawDR
In the only game I have played so far with the new codex, against eldar, I attached an 18pt WG as an extra wound. It could have been that or the onrushing attack force being a higher priority, but they never received a single shot all game. What I don't know is if they didnt receive any attention because of the WG or not - either way it worked. WG Vrox
Well I decided to drop the WG and give them a RB for DoW missions and protection against infitrators as well as cover save positioning, I also added a HB for would and horde considerations. So Pack is as follows 6 Long Fangs 4 ML 1 HB RB with HB. That gives me 2 HB 1 being TL for horde lists as well as 4 ML shots. I am needing some long range transport killer options and this should give it to me. Thanks for all the suggestions and CC. Vrox. If anyone is interested the full 2k list is as follows. Arctic Storm 2000 List looks good too; well balanced with all of the elements that you need to do well in offense or defense. Let us know how it goes after you play a few games with it.
